  1. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

It's probably just a good hardware combination. In my case I use Dell and Asus monitors and only the Asus has this problem with the same videocard and cabling.
  2. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

There's a repost video upon wake from sleep in the S1/S3 sleep mode section of most bios. I'd try everything, depending on how much this bothered someone. It bothered me quite a bit, and the solution was either use CCC 12.10, or to stop using DP on the problematic monitor. I chose the latter.
  3. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

S1/S3 sleep modes and anything else you can find in the bios to adjust.
  4. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

You're having problems with HDMI->DVI? You might want to try the bios options.
  5. Need a datepicker; build my own or use someone else's?

I've always used someone elses for this. Unless it's a learning exercise, you're asking 'do I reinvent the wheel' here for no appreciable gains.
  6. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

I wouldn't switch cards for this issue since its been reported on everything. I'd just switch cabling. But not trying another Displayport cable, I did that and made no difference. I'd just buy a HDMI<->DVI cable for any monitor that doesn't play well over DP. From what I found in my research...
  7. Oculus rift min/recommend requirements?

This. Radeon R9-390X No doubt about it. Not fast enough for you? I'm sure it'll overclock like a raped ape too. I've been waiting for the consumer release of OR to build a new rig myself. I've been wondering the same question, and I'm prepared to drop thousands on a new rig. Though it was a...
  8. C# - Java

Yes another vote for Java from me. I'm primarily a Python fan and use it wherever I can. I work with C# now as well, mostly bug fixes, I'm not building new features. Anyone who has built a career on .Net should be diversifying out at this time. The good news is, those guys while they may have...
  9. Asus Rog Swift PG278Q

Locked FPS@hz is the ideal. It's hard to maintain that, that's why GSync/Freesync were invented. Given the choice between guaranteed 60FPS@60hz, and GSync, having the 60@60 would be better than what you have. For two reasons: 1. GSync does not work under 30hz. So if you dip below 30FPS...
  10. Asus Rog Swift PG278Q

The key to Gsync is that you won't get tearing below your refresh rate (60hz - 144hz). If you're at a steady, rock-solid 60FPS @ 60hz, what is the benefit to having Gsync? 120FPS @ 120hz or 60FPS @ 60hz is vsync as intended.
  11. Asus Rog Swift PG278Q

My issue with Gsync is that it requires you to play in full-screen mode. Not being able to use borderless windowed mode broke the deal for me... which is more important to me than variable vsync. A 780TI or 290(X) should rarely if ever go below 60FPS regardless, making variable vsync less...
  12. "Is everything OK, Nvidia?" - Ogre3D dev blog

It's true that there are mistakes, I found a few myself. But that doesn't mean I'm dismissing him outright. There's a lot of insight and truth here as well. His general take-away is correct, in my opinion- It would be a logical fallacy to take someone's argument, which may contain an...
  13. "Is everything OK, Nvidia?" - Ogre3D dev blog

Yes the author got that wrong- This is "patently" incorrect. Nvidia was not the first to implement T&L in hardware. That was the 3DLabs Glint Gamma. Nor first for unified shaders, that was the Xbox360 (AMD Xenos).
  14. "Is everything OK, Nvidia?" - Ogre3D dev blog

While I have not been taking the stance that Nvidia's lawsuit is frivolous (yet, perhaps with more information or more time spent examining the situation my view will change), this Ogre3D developer presents an interesting take on it. As a software developer myself, I find fellow dev opinions...
  15. AMD Needs Your Help - Driver Feedback Requested

A friend of mine just bought an Evga 780TI. He has this too. I recommended he disable hardware acceleration in his Flash options. I've had to do this on my NV, AMD and Intel systems. I place the blame at Flash's feet. That said, I'm on 14.4WHQL right now with my 5870, and have acceleration...
  16. AMD Needs Your Help - Driver Feedback Requested

Submitted a few issues that I've seen over the years, I don't have anything major though to report at the moment. Edge cases but I hope they're not passed up on because they're annoying. My games have always worked. I'd like to commend and encourage AMD to continue supporting multi-monitor...
  17. Nvidia Sues Qualcomm, Samsung Over GPU Patents

Yup. And the bad thing here is that these types of lawsuits are usually very damaging to a company's image. NV's forte is it's marketing perception, to get people to pay more because it says Nvidia. My guess is their claims are valid if they're willing to go down this road, even if it doesn't...
  18. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

My tests showed my Dell panels work fine with my DP output. So much for the 'it's your cable' stuff that's continually repeated about this issue. Also unsure if my video card is at fault. It's probably mostly the monitor inputs. I think the older version of driver fixing it was maybe an issue of...
  19. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

I bought two different cables with my DP monitor. No change. I have a Cable Matters and Monoprice cable. Not sure I'm game for a 3rd one or not from Accell. Seems dubious. Especially with reviews like this- http://www.amazon.com/review/R2TA2UY...re=electronics Also tried bios options for S1/S3...
  20. Nvidia Sues Qualcomm, Samsung Over GPU Patents

I wouldn't disagree there (integrity free), but they do make decent product even if it's probably overpriced. I'd buy it again if they ever took the price/performance crown again. Which hasn't in my view, been since the GF8000 era. But none of this means their initial patent grants, or claims...
  21. FS - list of AMD GPU's not supported.

Yup, it's free for them, the vendors. Not free for anyone else. :) The marketplace moves forward with 2 adaptive vsync implementations on the desktop, and people still want to complain it wasn't 'free'.
  22. Nvidia Sues Qualcomm, Samsung Over GPU Patents

I hope all the anti-Apple people out there start bagging on Nvidia now too, right? Doubtful. My view on this, for one- I don't know if it's legit. I don't judge whether the patents were valid to be -granted- or not. But, if someone innovates- patents *anything that is granted a patent* and...
  23. Bought Wii U, any Wii games worth buying?

I'll check into those. The only ones from that list I'm less interested in are games with HD versions on the Wii U (Super Mario Galaxy games, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Mario Kart). I saw there's an HD remake of one of the Zelda games, Windwaker, which looks pretty good.
  24. Bought Wii U, any Wii games worth buying?

I didn't own a Wii, but picked up a Wii U for my wife and I. Anything that is truly worth picking up from the Wii catalog? I looked at some 'best of' lists for Wii games, and the only games that caught my eye so far are Punch Out!! (I'm 32, and had a NES in the late 80's, so played more than my...
  25. Thinking of dabbling in programming again.

No one in their right mind is building new product on .Net today. Period.
  26. Thinking of dabbling in programming again.

I'd vote for JS. But the C# recommendations IMO are nonsense. Mono is a clunky pile, I would never use it- but I've tried. If you're going to use C#, run it as a 1st class citizen- on .Net. C# is on the good 'language' list but not on the good choice list. It's too tied to .Net and MS and other...
  27. Thinking of dabbling in programming again.

I really don't get the C# recommendations. Little too close to MS. The JS idea is a decent one, though JS itself has a lot of gotchas and baggage. Personally I'd do Python or JS if the focus is on 'what language'. I stand by my best-learning-material stance though, and what you personally find...
  28. Best strategy for building an app for both Android and iOS? PhoneGap?

He doesn't -have- to convert anything to native. If Cordova meets his performance needs then there never will be a good reason. For a non-gaming app, it likely always will be. If you're making a game, then Unity is the way without a doubt. You can again use Javascript there as well. It also...
  29. Programming, mother____er!

I have this tshirt, and I love it.
  30. Thinking of dabbling in programming again.

The language doesn't matter. The learning material does though. http://learnpythonthehardway.org/ or bust, IMO.
  31. Best strategy for building an app for both Android and iOS? PhoneGap?

I would skip RubyMotion. I would also skip Xamarin due to the insane licensing. $1000 per developer, per platform, per year. Not to mention your friend would have to learn C# which isn't something I'd spend time on if he's not coming from the .Net world. Cordova is the no-brainer if it fits...
  32. Downsides of OpenGL [Blogpost]

This is why as long as the price/performance crown is still as dramatically in AMD's favor as today when SteamOS is v1.0 and taking off that if I buy a GCN card I'll have OGL and Mantle, vs with NV stuck with just OGL. :) It's been all-AMD bang for buck domination since the post GF8 era, and I...
  33. UpdateNvidia GeForce GTX Titan Z postponed again

Titan Z just doesn't have what it takes to compete. They wanted it to be a $3000 card intended for the "professional market", yes, sure. But missing the Quadro branding and with a Geforce sticker on it.
  34. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

Interesting to see that Nvidia users are getting this also in the thread. It appears to be a combo hardware/software issue. I didn't have the problem on 12.10whql but every driver after it started. Still looking for a fix, it seems to me on 14.4 whql the problem happens less often but not...
  35. firefox 29 " release candidate build 1 " final released

I love the design of FF29. I was already happy with FF since I started using it in beta around 0.96 (and Netscape before that), but this is definitely better. Much cleaner, and removed most of the items I had on the address bar line and put them in the hamburger menu. A+++++ would download...
  36. Civilization: Beyond Earth the next Mantle game.

Nothing. AMD has great DX/OGL performance AND Mantle. Butthurt much over that or what? Weird thing to search through my old posts in the middle of the day on a Wednesday trying to get me on something, where there is nothing. Keep avoiding the thread topic in attempt to get it locked, since its...
  37. Civilization: Beyond Earth the next Mantle game.

Think real hard, why would someone have a problem with a guy enjoying AMD-only features? It's self evident, just nod your head in disgust and move along amigo. Anyway, this may be the development that gets me to upgrade from my 5870 to a GCN2 card. This is the first Civ game I've been excited...
  38. Does anyone still get the AMD 7xxx bug where your monitor doesn't wake up from sleep?

I have this issue on DP, but I never saw the issue on DVI, and I don't use converters for DVI->DP.
  39. AMD @ GDC: Partnership with MS next-generation graphics.

I honestly agree with that. I'd question its value though, if any at all. As a side-effect to 3D Vision, they did push the adoption of 120hz, which wasn't really successful. There still are not enough 120hz models on the market. I'd love to get 60hz on a 4K, but can't even get that. So 3D...
  40. AMD @ GDC: Partnership with MS next-generation graphics.

Put simply, this is just AMD pushing the hardware industry forward again. I know praising AMD or their stuff doesn't go down well around here, but they're the Google of the hardware industry. They did it with the Athlon, AMD64, Eyefinity, HSA/APUs and now Mantle. Mantle is a big deal, if it...
