Damn. 5 hours at work not being able to access the forums. And that's a best case scenario. Worst case is the forums don't come up. Ever!

Get sucked into a blackhole or something.

All my posts and bookmarks lost forever.

A part of my life extinguished with almost no alternative forum to fill the void.

Life will be over for me.

I'll have no choice but to ACTUALLY work!

What could be more depressing than that?

Dude...in such an event, you need to demand a raise since you're going to actually be doing what you get paid to do.

I already do the minimum required otherwise I would be in trouble.

Working harder isn't gonna get me a raise. It will just convince them that I was previously slacking off and raise their expectations from me. Maybe I will learn python in the newly available time, automate more tasks and get even lazier!

I need to go to the shops tomorrow after work and buy or order in some hardware replacements. I accidentally electrocuted myself earlier last week and in the process I took out a few thousand dollars worth of hardware. Careless mistake thinking I'd shut the mains off after a phone call, bathroom break and some food. Ended up taking a visit to hospital to get checked out.

The only thing in a PC that would electrocute you would be the PSU. Why did you touch that?

I never said it was a PC? I was working with what I thought was non live wiring on my house. My mobile doesn't get good reception where I'm at and I needed to use the landline to call someone. The chat went on for longer than I'd planned and I lost trackof what I had to do after going and doing other things. A careless mistake.

I could blame it on getting older but I did something similar at the last home I owned in 2017 when I stuck a tool into place of what I assumed was a shut off mains. That one was punchy and caused me to fall down onto my back. It's nothing like being thrown several meters like in film. Maybe a more powerful current would be needed. I was sitting on the floor with this one and saw the spark before I felt and tasted it. Given my health issues last year I thought I'd go to hospital to have myself checked out in case something was amiss. In my youth I did a paid apprentice with a good electrician who taught me enough to do basic home rewiring and wiring stuff up. I wasn't poking blindly.

And this weekend I was cooking and forgot to turn off the heat before I added a specific ingredient that will cause a terrible boilover. I spent the rest of the day cleaning crud off my stove and floor. It could be worse, it could have been a gas stove.

Considering the time-frame for the "planned-outage", had I not seen the orange notice @ the top of the page I might well have missed the entire event!

My advice is STEER CLEAR of any and all future electrical work!

Clearly it's NOT your calling!

This thread is the only reason I know anything about it. Nothing in the stickies shows for me.

It's not a "sticky" thread but not like an "ad" either... just an orange rectangle all the way at the very top of the page.

Maybe get a CT scan? Something is not right. You can't just start forgetting things like that. Maybe some meds can be used to slow the decline. If you go on a keto diet, it might even reverse it.

I know not of which you speak...

Tried with ad blocker and privacy badger both turned off...same results.

I'm seeing it in Chrome w/Adblock Plus enabled. (using dark mode)

As follows:

On March 29th we will be migrating the Anandtech Forums to a new host. We expect the forums to go down at 13:00 GMT (05:00 PST, 08:00 EST) and anticipate a downtime of roughly five hours. Thank you for bearing with us during this maintenance period.

Sorry about all this trouble everybody, but I was told that when I do wake from the medically-induced coma this afternoon, you will all be back in place as you were before...well, hopefully.

There's a chance that Boomer will now be a 10 year-old girl and Mayne will have a sudden distaste for weed but his vision will be completely restored to the point where he can actually see through time.
