    Hunting for a Keyboard

Blocking - can't press more than n number of keys, or certain combinations. Ghosting - press a bunch of keys, and yet another keypress is registered.

    Hunting for a Keyboard

I've heard that old keyboards were far les susceptible to ghosting. If that's the case, buy a whole bunch of different el-cheapo models from geeks.com.

Any new keyboards like the Darwin Smartboard?

There are smaller keypads available from other manufacturers. Also, you don't want your hands to be in a palm-down position, but closer to a hand-shake orientation. To achieve that you have to "tent" the boards. That reduces the width. The most extreme solution is to have the boards down by the...

Any new keyboards like the Darwin Smartboard?

Why not? You can relegend/reprogram them however you want. Can use 2 or even 3 of them at the same time to have just the kind of ergonomic setup you want. I like this idea (but with 2 POS USB keyboards): http://www.thecraftstudio.com/bcboy/keyboard.html They also last forever.

Any new keyboards like the Darwin Smartboard?

www.plum.bz Weird, I know, but nothing you can't remap. ML short-travel mechanical switches, but, IMO, the keycaps are too big, so if you press on the edge of a key, the motion becomes very stiff. Get 2, and make yourself your own ergonomic keyboard. Mechanical boards don't get any cheaper...

    Monitor Profiles/Settings Thread

xt, Would this profile import properly into OS X? Mine imported without errors, although I can't really tell if that's how it's supposed to look. It looks darker, and more saturated. Definitely darker than Apple's standard 1.8 gamma. Is it the ideal for text as well? Thanks in advance.

    LCD Buyer's Guide

The burn-in seems unrelated to the other issues, and is easy enough to test. In my case, a white window on a black background does the trick. Say, open a PDF file, leave it for 30 minutes (I haven't really timed it, or really bothered with the whole issue all that much). After you close it...

Spoke too soon. The burn-in is still there. Oh well.

    LCD Buyer's Guide

NEC got another unit for me to have a look at. And it's exactly the same. Sigh... I'm keeping the one I have. Strangely enough, after it spent a week being off, I don't see anymore burn-in happening.

I also have the non-US version. Got it 2 months ago. I'm pretty sure it's got a revision sticker somewhere on the back. Anyway, when I get mine back (or a new one, hopefully), I'll let you know. I don't believe the NEC is capable of 75 Hz. The tech did try it anyway, but it made no...

    LCD Buyer's Guide

Crap. I too blamed the noise on my laptop, cable... But I had a couple of 2007WFP Dells a few weeks before getting the NEC and noticed no difference between VGA and DVI (they sucked for other reasons, though). My DVI has no noise, but still has burn-in problems. BTW, when did you get yours...

xt, just to update you on my LCD20WGX2's noisy VGA port. I took it into my local NEC service center. At first no-one could see it. However, what they did see was the image persistance - I had a notepad window up for a few minutes, and when I closed it , you could see faint white glow where...

    LCD Buyer's Guide

xt, I've sort of gotten a decent setup now. I'm runnig gnome on X11 on OS X on the mac-mini, which is connected to the monitor via DVI. This lets me by-pass the crappy OS X font smoothing, and use the X11 font rendering. I ssh to my Linux laptop, and use Synergy to share the keyboard and...
