I was wondering if those surplus IBM netvista cases, sold on eBay, will take a mATX Mb
(9.6' X 9.6') such as the new ASUS AN78X-VM? Anybody with experience building a system with these case?

I would avoid anything from ECS based on a bad experience with the infamous K7S5A. The SIS 645 is a decent chipset for an basic economical box. I got 2 on them on running on ASUS mbs.
The best known of the dual socket 370 mbs was the Abit BP6, it supported dual cellys naturally.

The mb is an ASUS CUW-AM mb ( i810 based micro ATX board ) and does not have a 100mhz jumper and is not upgradable. The only upgrade possible is another m-ATX mb supporting more powerful cpus.

How about giving us more info about the system..........like the manufacturer of the mb. or atleast a model for the HP box.
Sometimes oem mbs are just different enough that the bios from the manufacturer will not work. You run the risk of rendering the mb useless with a incompatible bios...
Your PC2700 memory is good for a FSB of 166mhz. You are only running it @144mhz so the problem is not the memory. I would invest some money on better cooling and see if I can get a o/c of 2.6ghz.
