Is anyone using the thermalpad that comes attached to the new heatsink, or are you carving it off with a razor and using something like AS5 only?

Hey yall, got a bunch of questions for you... So, how does one go about removing the old chipset fan without damaging the chipset? Is it easy to take off? Is it stuck on the chipset with thermal paste/glue/epoxy? Do i just pull it off after undoing the pushpins from the motherboard, or do...

it is another computer that i have that i am going to be turning into a file server. I just wanted to have as near a silent system as possible, so a pentium M would do well because of the high performance to heat ratio.

File Server power supply

I am trying to figure out what PSU would work well for a file server that i am planning on building from a bunch of spare parts that i have. here is what is gonna go in it.... Pentium 4 1.7GHz (socket 478) Intel MicroATX motherboard Geforce 3 or some old Radeon AGP 512MB PQI value...

i think that the memory was set to 2.8V oh, btw, it IS possible to attain memory speeds over 250Mhz @ 1T, but the key to this is that you cannot be running 512M sticks of memory. You MUST be running 256M stix or lower. checky d' linky...

i had been running 233 x 11 = 2563MHz w/ memory @ 2-3-3-7 @ 1T (DDR400) i have also gotten the memory to max out at 242 x 10 = 2420 MHz @ 2.5-4-3-10 @ 1T (DDR400 Setting) both of those were prime stable for 12+ hours taken w/ bios 1004.001 beta

seems that the a8n-sli has problems running 512M stix of memory over 250MHz, while 256M stix can do 280+.

i think that the main goal here is to get the board running 1:1 (DDR400 setting) w/ 1T timings consistantly above 245MHz FSB. Comeon ASUS. I know that you have it in you to do it!

I am considering this because i know that a +22Mhz difference for the CPU might not amount to as much of a gain as +9MHz for the memory. If the additional .5x multiplier will screw the memory controller up such that there is a significant performace hit, then i wont even bother. But if there...

Though it is true that the A64 mem doesnt need to be 1:1, i have read from many different forums that running anything but 1:1 will incur memory bandwidth penalties... I guess that i am asking if the memory controller will operate more efficiently (more mem bandwidth) if the CPU multiplier is...
