Going to be building a system using ASUS P4P800 - Any issues I should know of?

Do yourselfs a big favour and get the P4C800-E board instead as it has a few fundimental updates that is a big improvment on its flawed predesesor.If you check with google it will show them in detail.

HD question, XP/Linux does not recognize

Try this.Open controll panel,then performance and maintinance,then administrative tools,then computer managment and on the list on the left ,press disc managment.from there you should be able to access inactive harddrives...The people that make windows think its clever to hide stuff there like a...

Grab-it dust cloths dusting my computer safety question

Dont bother with a cloth.Use compreessed air ,available at computer stores,and blast the dust out.If you have a vacuum with attachment ,then suck the dust up as it comes out.

hard drive question

I have the same board and just assembled my first computer.The way I done it was to use my old ata 10 gig harddrive for the os,(xp).I then attached 2 sata drives to the raid connector on the board.There is a good improvment with the raid drive for video and gaming.You have the board so why not...

Help I'm going crazy? Crashes.and Restarts

When their is a major problem I allways suspect RAM first and it nearly allways is the culprit.If you are running in dual mode then take one stick out and try in single mode and check each stick individually.

Thanks KF for that detailed info.It definitly makes the prossess clearer to me.My sata driver should be built in as its asuses flagship p4c800-e mobo.I reckon with all the old games people have this could be the way to go to keep everything running.Thanks.

Thanks for your help guys.I tried the controll panel and found the add hardware and got the sidewinder working there.Right on,as I am totaly broke putting together a great new machine..As far as multiple operating systems go I am thinking about it,just not sure how big you would make the...

Mixing SATA and IDE

Yep it will work fine,I have an IDE drive for booting xp and a sata raid for gaming...In fact on this mobo(ASUSp4c800-e) you can have an amazing ten drives working together,2 sata in raid,2 sata in parrellel or seperate,2 ata raid drives and 2 ide ports which in master and slave would take 4...

Can't install Windows XP Pro or 2000. Help please.

The first thing to do with this kind of problem is check for bad ram.If you have 2 sticks take one out and try each one byitself.If you only have one stick try and borrow one or buy another and try.

problem with HD??

I remember this problem with my wd drive.You dont set the jumper as master if the drive is by itself on a ide port,it should show you on the drive itself a non master/slave setting,use that setting and it will work.

Asus are killing me.

IVALIDUSER you cracked it.Thanks ,you saved me a heap of work.It was there all the time like you said but inactive.I had never used xp before and was used to new hardware messages in 98.All I had to do was right click and format the drive.I now have a lovley 153 gig array and am loading generals...

Asus are killing me.

Thanks for your replys.If you mean control panel and then hardware I have a promise controller under raid and scusi,but there is no sign of the harddrive array ,only my old ata wd drive that has the operating system xp on it.I think the problem is that asus support cd says for the p4c800/p4p800...

Asus are killing me.

I just put together a new system and emptied my bank accounts,everything eventually worked out except fot the sata raid drives.I have been stuck for 3 days now and its affecting my mental stability..I put in my old 10 gig ata wd drive for the operating system so I dont have 2 drives buzzing...

Raid 0 performance

None .you will need a motherboard that that does duel channel ram,since ram is the bottleneck on all computers.
