How many frames per second is enough?

I agree with Rand mostly, In RTCW 60 is smooth and clear, if I move it to somewhere in the 40s, I can feel the lag in the game a bit. Anything above 60 is clear, I've gone past 200fps, no difference. FPS games are by far the most demanding on a high frame rate.

your link shows the 1800 losing by 0.1 in mp4 encoding, and leading by a bit in the mp3 encoding.... it leads in general use graph, and only really on internet content creation, which isn't what he is doing, is it? Your comments were true when talking about a Tbird, but not an XP, the SSE in...

What does IBM produce?

IBM has a lot of business side stuff, thats where the money, they don't want to deal with a moron learning to not delete the windows directory on their pc. IBMs research in amoung the best as well, while their HDs may not be great now, the technology behind them is ahead of many others, always...

You might make a stable bios, but you won't get the bioses updated monthly like from a mainstream board. Support for future hardware is also a problem, once the boards are paid for, you won't go back and waste your own money developing bios support for 500 boards. I don't care how much pride...

Is FPS the only thing that video cards can be mesured with?

unfortunately most reviewers aren't good enough to measure more than fps, so the comparisions are few and far between. A good brand of nvidia cards will have good 2d quality as well, but stay away from a GF2. In terms of DVD, tv out, and other features in the chip, ATI is still ahead. The...

AMD cpu Rendering Errors

AMD +opera is ok mozilla ok IE nope.. looks like MSs screwed up browser rendering. When you use proper html, and don't customize if for IE, you will see problems. The only AMD file problems I know is of a very tiny % of CPUs and MS products relating only to jpgs.

Shouldn't have bought a Thermaltake fan, they don't know what quiet is. Zalman makes a nice quiet video HSF, but its costly, $28 for the heatsink, not sure how much the fan is.

Which motherboard is best of these...

I don't trust Azza for a bunch of reasons, so I'd throw those out. For the people that want the options, the Soyo board is nice, but the Gigabyte is cheaper. The Aopen board for the p4 is using a good chipset, and Aopen is making decent boards now, but they are overpriced, imo.

the cost would be horribly high, and even if you could get it done, I would highly question the stability of the board which could be made as fast, and cheap as possible. They won't spend time tweaking memory timings to make things stable. Bios updates? forget I couldn't see any application...

New to AMD - building a video editing workstation.

The newest XPs don't seem to be dual capable anymore, the earlier ones were. I'm not sure if its possible to get them with smp or not still. For video editting, either get the Iwill XP333 or something with a new SiS745 chipset for a single solution, and it shouldn't matter much for dual, they...

actually the people that upgrade their motherboard twice a year are an extremely small minority. The majority of people use them until they are too slow for bloated MS code... I help people all the time, I just state what happens to certain boards. I have no agenda, my recommendation to avoid...

I use turtle beach because onboard Cmedia uses too many resources still, they aren't making them complete solutions, just cheap. If you want to use your IBM ps2 ancient keyboard go ahead and use it on your 486, but don't get a Hammer when they come out and complain about saving a buck.
