Looks like a simple case of HP hinge explosion. Careful disassembly and review of the damaged parts followed by searching on http://partsurfer.hp.com will give you part numbers for the damaged pieces. Some quick Googling will then allow you to purchase the parts and repair the laptop. HP...

Not unless the data is highly compressible. Buy a 2 or 3 TB drive and schedule daily/weekly backups as needed.

Newegg Next Day Air or Amazon Next Day Air. Silverstone FT02, Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5P, 32GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24, Noctua NH-D14, and Seasonic X-660 are all mounted in FT02 and waiting for the 3770K to arrive.

DDR RAM -should i upgrade?

DaveSimmons is spot on. DDR1 will not got any cheaper. It will go the way of RDRAM. So either get it now, or save your money for when you switch to a DDR2 system.
