The cheap SSDs thread

Inland pro series 120 & 240. Think these are Microcenter's inhouse brand. Price does not seem to bad at 25.99 for 120 & 45.99 for 240. Not sure if it a sale price or normal. I grabbed 2 240's the other day still waiting for arrival...

Cheapest "PC on a stick"?

Those look really cool, cannot believe how small a full computing device has become. So all one really needs is a usb power source, would something like a usb wall charger work as a power source? I would hate to see the space left over on the 16gb model after win 8.1 was installed. lol

You may have already tried, but to set your homepage, and search settings use the Desktop IE not metro. You should also be able to get rid of the Bing search addon in the Desktop IE in the manage addon's.

Update 5 yr old laptop vs new?

It will do 4gb no problem, many confirmed cases running 4gb. There are some 8 gb reports also but 4 should be more than enough in this case. Latest or last BIOS should be used also from what I can find.

Sounds like you might have a drive going south. Should be good to go with the ATI card. Personally I would not bother with XP at this time, it has a little bit of life left but it's EOL is rapidly approaching. Win 7 or 8, 8.1really has so many benefits plus future proofing over xp. A tl-64...

Have not seen it mentioned so far, but what vid card is in the laptop? If it has one of the old nvidia 7000 or 8000 series cards then I would be very hesitant to upgrade the machine since those cards had a very high failure rate. Elsewise 4 gbs of ddr2 667 or ddr2 800, ssd, and Win 7 would be...

What power brick are you using Dell or generic???? I know with some dell models using a generic brick will not allow the cpu to run a full speed, it will run it at a throttled state. Also as a temp band-aid you could run Throttle Stop and force the cpu to run at full speed, although that...

Yeah I'm certainly lean towards defective touchpad. Sad too since the lappy is only a little over a year old. I'm probably going to need and break it open and find out exactly what parts I need, so far I haven't run into a whole lot in info on them. I might be better just going with a used...

Is my laptop on its' death bed?

Try hooking up an external monitor and see if the problem follows, if it does it is more than likely a gpu issue. If it does not follow then probably the first thing I would check is the cable from the MB to the LCD.

Transformer Prime as replacement for netbook/daily-use machine?

Might be advantageous to wait for the Surface pro, since it will be considered a computer, running windows 8. Even though I have a prime and really like it, it is no substitute for a computer.

Dell Latitude D600 CPU Stuck At 600MHz

Good to hear issue was resolved. Another option would have been to run RM Clock, where you can lock the multiplier down and also undervolt. I have had to do that in the past with some customers old 600's, for they were using generic power supplies and did not want to purchase one of the dell...

Upgrading laptop CPU

X9100 or T9900 are the best bets for that Gateway FX listed in your link. The X9100 can be oc'ed using ThrottleStop the T9900 cannot.

older HP d v6 (dv6910us) cd/dvd issue

No, cannot boot from the drive either. I can hear it try to spin up and the light will flicker but that is about it. I am not seeing it in BIOS either. When booting and choosing boot options it will not show me an option to boot from the cd/dvd either. I'm assuming a dead drive vs bad interface.
