@Jimminy That is quite a lot and indicates, that ASPM is not going into effect, as 1 W is typical idle power consumption without it enabled. Maybe try and and set ASPMDIS to 0x01 and measure it again. I would not trust those variable names 100 %.
Okay, I looked it up. According to Realtek the RTL9210(B) indeed supports ASPM. But the enclosure manufacturers might still configured the firmware to have it disabled.
@Jimminy
I currently only have a few SATA enclosures. That the bridge chips do not support power saving features of the SSD is just something that I read on a trustworthy review site, but I do not remember where exactly.
Thanks for your replies. Nice to see, that there are indeed users with no problems.
I have read that the cables often make problems and also that USB-C to -A is not ideal.
Are these two points really that important, though?

I have not looked in this thread since over a year. Sad to see that stuff has not changed much and these enclosures are still unreliable as heck.
The new Asus TUF Gaming A1 looks quite nice from a quality perspective, but it still uses the RTL9210 chip and there are not many reviews on Amazon...
Ah well, I did not understand what you mean, it literally is an enclosure for M.2 SATA drives that converts it to 2.5″ SATA, plus it has an USB port.
Sure, NVME is completely different transfer protocol that is used with PCIe as the interface. SATA uses AHCI as transfer protocol.
I think you do not really understand what SATA and M.2 really are. (You might have been mislead by marketing bs.)
M.2 and 2.5″ are the form factors (physical appearance), SATA is the interface, being the same for both form factors. There is zero difference between M.2 and 2.5″ SATA drives other...
I encountered that enclosure several times (it is sold under different names but probably just imported from the same manufacturer in China). There were always negative reviews that criticised this clip for it being prone to break.
