I'm looking at buying one of the current-gen Intel Core2Duo iMacs pretty soon. I'm thinking of getting a very low-end CPU in it and just manually upgrading it myself.
Has anyone replaced the CPU in their current-gen iMac? How easy was it to get to the CPU socket? I've build PCs for 8 years...
I found this little freeware app that is really straight-forward. It's called FileCheckMD5. It creates an MD5 sum for each file from a selected folder/drive. It's a stand-alone EXE and at 289K is small enough to fit on a USB drive or burn to a CD with the MD5 to use for later verification...
I actually found that my Nero Burning ROM 6 package had Nero BackItUp which appears to work to at least copy the files I tell it to and verify them after copying.
I couldn't find an application that would correctly calculate checksums for an SFV file to verify the integrity of all the files...
I recently bought an external hard drive dedicated to making manual backups of my data. As part of my monthly backup routine, I want to run a verification that checks that all files on the backup drive are the same as they were when I originally copied them to the drive the previous month. I...
I think I'll try and ask really technical questions to baffle the sales person, and then try and talk them down as low as I can, then to just say no, I changed my mind. Although my wife can hardly keep a straight face while I try and heckle normal sales-people, so hopefully she doesn't ruin the...
I hope you have more skills. If you go for a film major, do production, and find something you like to do in it. Get to know as many people as you can, and bust your ass to work for people while in school so they know you can do what it takes to do good work.
In film school, there are...
I can fully second this rant. I have a client that loves to call me multiple times per day, and calls right after she sends an e-mail to me about some issue she's having. Her project is over-hours because she's "a visual person" and can't make a decision until she sees it. And she is...
My wife received a random call from somebody saying that we had won a digital camera and a 8-day Caribbean vacation. All we had to do was go to this local hotel tonight to pick it up and, in so many words, watch some sales pitch.
If you've ever gone to one of these, you'll know that it's...
What freeware application reads C source code? I have the compiled .com file and what I believe to be the source code. I guess this kind of stuff can't be displayed in Dreamweaver. I also do not have access to Visual Studio.
The script talks to a database (I think) to display search...
Are you needing to manage a database list of ID numbers on the admin-side, and then a little script that randomly plucks one from the database on page-load and drops it into your code? That's not exactly something you could just write out here in a thread...
I can code something like this...
They did, but we spent a good few hours deep cleaning the layer of grease all over everything else in their kitchen. Maybe our expectations were too high for the condition we thought the place would be left in. But I do agree it could have been a lot worse.
Thanks for the quick responses everybody, will see what can be done about this. Here's to hoping the seller may offer to fix it, or help pay for it up to the point that the contract said he would pay for damages found as a result of the inspection... although he's legally not obligated to anything.
