Since folding is important to you, then your path should be with Nvidia. For an econo-system, your first consideration should be the Palit GTS 450 Sonic, which uses little power and competes with the HD 5770. Higher up you can look at any GTX 460 1GB, I prefer the ones from Palit for the quieter...

Yes, the sata mode must be set to AHCI for the update to be succesfull, read my post on the detailed process of enabling AHCI without having to reinstall the OS.

Best SSD choice now for Win XP boot drive?

I like the Adata 599 series with the new sandforce chipset, which are able to compete with much more expensive SSD from competitors. I use a Microcenter branded 64gb for a Vista os drive with no problems, specially after upgrading the firmware to 3.4.6

Car dying what to check?

two possibilities, bad Idle control Valve/motor or stuck EGR. A bad ICV/ICM will show up with very low idle or erratic idle, and car will only die on idle. A bad EGR will cause difficult starts on cold weather, but no problems in warm weather.

GPU for HTPC & Gaming...

GTS 450 Sonic from platinum is excellent value, but only if its under $120, above that, its best to get a GTX 460 768mb. I have a GTS 450 and a GTX 470 from Palit, and i really like their custom cooling solutions, very quiet, the 450 is almost silent and performs on par with the much noisier...

TGUS is such fail, nothing but rehash of the TGUK challenges but with none of the comedy or wit. The GM challenge was a play by play rehash of the BL challenge from 5 years ago. Id rather watch the TGUK reruns.

Enough Current rating?

Amp ratings on GPU are always going to be over-estimated by at least 5 amps, this is done on purpose so as to not have to deal with people damaging cards due to too little power. A cheap way to find out if your GPU is actually pulling those amps is to do an actual amp probe test. Get a cheap...

The 599 series is actually slower on purpose, as to extend the life cycle of the chips, still plenty fast when compared to mechanicals. and for $99, it is a good deal unless blazing speed is a must.

Non-Gamer Video Card Recommendations?

HD5450 is what I use on my HTPC builds, just enough power for smooth Aero on win 7 and wmc but not so hungry that it needs a fan or extra power. Mine is paired on a P35 board with an E4500, whole thing tops at 80watts and idles at 40.
