Overheating Problems

Thanks guys. My board does not have any overclocking controls in the BIOS. This morning, I took a damp cloth and tried to clean up the surface of the CPU. I'm going to let it dry for 24 hours, then use the eraser on a mechanical pencil to make sure I remove what I did to the bridges...

Shuttle AK31A Beep Codes: What do they mean?

Best Video Card for Old CPU

I seem to recall the GF3's being very, very, limited by the CPU. However, a R7000 is not a good gaming card at all. I am almost leaning towards maybe a R7500, GF4MX, or for DX8 support a R8500/R9000 although I cannot recall how the R8500/9000 did on older CPU's. I am thinking that you should...

Pentium 4 versus M

The P-M performs great in non-P4 optimized apps (1.6 between 2.4 and 2.66 Desktop P4), but in P4 optimized apps it falls short (remember its P6 architechure). The fastest Mobile P4 is a 2.5GHz so it could be pretty close. What apps will be run on it? I'd be tempted to go P-M just in case...

Worth getting Canterwood ?

Wait for the i865PE. The i865PE has got to be significantly cheaper (ie $150ish) and that is much more plausible than the i875P and there should be practically no performance difference.

VIA PT400 vs i865/i875: 133A vs 820 all over again?

I too doubt that the 865 will be as expensive as 820 was, but this is certainbly an interesting thing with Intel committing to a more expensive standard and a new faster bus but refusing to support the new faster bus with a cheaper memory (ie single channel DDR).

Poll: ZIF-Socket Chipsets on Motherboards, would you pay more for them?!?!?

Such an idea does sound like a good idea, but in reality as others probably have said, is impractical. There are other parts of the motherboard itself which need to be changed in order to be able to "drop in" a new chipset revision.
