HTPC forum

Just wondering if there is a specific place for HTPC's? I see so many users having HTPC related issues (cases, motherboards, HDMI audio, tuners, etc.). If there is no specific forum, will it be a good idea to start one?

How much power a computer consumes?

You don't have much choice when you are working on a power hungry system (like for video editing which I do a lot). My question originated as I want to make an HTPC which can play Blu-ray and has an HDMI with 7.1 audio (not necessarily uncompressed audio as that changes the ball game) on it...

I guess the way to find out is by actually trying it. The idea was to recycle the 3-4 systems I have in the garage. The new cases are quite cheap, and given the uncertainty, might be the only way to go.

I have an old Compaq Evo desktop whose case I am thinking to reuse as it is in a good shape and is of right size. Is there anyway of knowing what type of motherboard it will take? In general, how can you tell such a thing for a brand name computer (HP / Compaq)?

MoBo for HTPC

There seems to be a general agreement on 5.1. I don't know much about it, but given that my Yamaha setup is 7.1, I figured that is the way to go. Anyhow, assuming I am going 5.1. Any suggestions on the hardware (MB and video card)? As I mentioned earlier, I want to keep this system very...

How much power a computer consumes?

With the electricity rates going up and global warming in mind, I often wonder how much net power does a computer really consumes. For instance, I have an Antec 500W PS, Intel 6600 CPU, an ordinary video card, a couple of 120mm fans, and 3 HDD's. Am I really consuming 500 watts all the time...

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't figure out if the Asrock motherboard has a 7.1-enabled HDMI. This MSI R4670 video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-440-_-Product seems like a good bet based on MSI site. Has a 7.1 audio with a UVD2 video decoder. There is another one MSI...
