According to 680i reviews I've seen, you can run FSB and memory speeds either linked or unlinked, and you can also run the FSB faster than the memory, which means you don't need expensive memory to achieve a high FSB.
On a sidenote, does anyone know if the 680i/650i chipsets allow multiplier...
