Also have you tried to play any ripped divx movies with it and if so how is the performance? Does it support .mkv (anybody?)

I would stay far away from that position unless you're in dire need of a job at the moment. None of the skills you acquire as an operator will do you much good in any other IT position (other than being able to say you worked in IT) and you'll spend most of your time hitting the F5 key waiting...
