I appreciate the comments but I am a bit confused now. Let's take this hypothesis: I have a trackball similar to a Kensington Slimblade where I have removed the trackball itself. That is hard mounted on the left of my keyboard. Then I have a conventional PS/2 or USB mouse on the right where I...
I have read rather poor reviews of the foot pedal switches as they seem to not only stress your foot muscles (that's all I need now) but also have very poor feel and control. The problem with getting right and left handed mice is that I want to segregate the functions. I only want cursor control...
Old age sucks, so after computing basically nonstop since 1978, my right hand's index and middle fingers are almost non-functional. I think that the best configuration for me would be to have input devices on both sides of my keyboard. I can cup my right hand around a mouse, but clicking and...
Consider yourself beered! I'll email you a two-four of Molson Canadian right away. But remember that I, like the late great MJ, am doing it for the children!
My beef is not so much with MIPS or gigaflops. It's with the effective slowdown of overall engineering progress. The first flight of the...
Idontcare: I have about $50 in my savings account, and I'm more than happy to contribute it all to the "cause." I live in British Columbia which is suffering from chronic homelessness and a virtual collapse of our medical system but it didn't stop the province from losing a few billion dollars...
I can certainly see your point, Idontcare, and I would be more than happy to join with like minded individuals such as yourself in taking a hands-on approach to "changing the CPU world." I would have to get over my fundamental disgust at the ways that some fabs seem to be financed, with Dr. Ruiz...
I am trying to drive the change in the best way I know how. Trying to get the point across to an AMD executive who is in a position to affect in some way the direction of the only company in the world today which has the technological basis to be able to compete with Intel.
If you want me to...
Mr. Fruehe, again with all due respect to an executive of your experience and standing, I would like to explain at least "my opinion" on that statement.
It is progress, sir. The primary driving force of computer technology should be to "go where no CPU has gone before", not fill in between...
Nothing can be concluded until we see indy BD benchies, but what interests me personally is "pushing the envelope" CPUs. Cutting edge microprocessors that achieve new and previously unparalleled pure performance standards. In other words, what makes my software run faster and better than any...
I'm also massively unconcerned about TDP. So it costs me an extra $10 a month on my electric bill. Big deal. I'll use my electric clothes dryer less and balance it out. :)
Here is what I am interested in: The highest performing CPU bar none that I can buy without heading into four figure territory. If BD is that CPU, then "sold!" If not, I'll buy it from AMD's competitor. I don't care one bit who makes it, what it is, or what color the box is. Gimme "affordable...
The Japanese situation is so severe that it's going to dampen the entire world economy. Look at the price of oil today. IMHO whatever supply problems do to raise prices, decreasing demand will equalize it. I wouldn't stock up on any chip right now. I think it's too risky.
