Quick question re need for WPA over WEP

May I ask what the benefits are of using this DD-WRT firmware I keep seeing? More advanced functions not necessary for a basic user or increased stability and/or reach as well?

Thanks everyone! The switch is not managed. It's a 4-port Linksys. How do I go about to "sniff the wire"? I will try this. Can I use any IP on the machine I'm connecting?

Ok I have a little problem here. I accidentally logged out of a W2K machine, I have no idea what the admin pass is, and the machine is alone on a separate network that runs through the building (ip range unknown). I of course have physical access to everything, it's connected to a Linksys...

Yes, I have, also with a laptop. But only when using Linksys wifi connection program, not the XP built-in one.

If you are running a bittorrent client the overwhelming # of connections can cause this, reduce max # in your client or router (if possible). Refer to your routers support page for settings and perhaps a firmware upgrade. Does your isp use PPPoE? Have you checked the "Disconnect after X...

I can't acess files across my network.

When you say you can't copy the files, what exactly are you trying to do that doesn't work? Can you see the computer on the network and you aren't allowed to write to the other computer or isn't it visible whatsoever?

911 or Tsunami

Well for Americans I think 9/11 was worse. All of a sudden you are at war with everyone and anyone could be a terrorist. For most others it is the tsunami, the countries struck by it obviously worst. Just here in Sweden 1100 are still missing, which is alot considering our population. Kids...

What is the LEAST firepower you can afford to take down a full adult Grizzly Bear?

Change default My Pictures?

This I know! Use regedit and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion". Change the value for "ProgramFilesDir". PS Thanks dawks, you weren't too late ;) DS

Problems using FTP with Netgear WGT634U.*Solved!*

Well then I'm the idiot ;) Anyway, apparently after upgrading the firmware the router needs a complete factory reset. I did that and everything worked fine. A tip for you Netgear users out there.
