I can not get my Win 2K drive to boot when I put it on my ATA100 Promise IDE controller.
I have a dual boot 98SE/Win 2K system and I setup my drives off the regular ATA33/66 Primary IDE interface.

Hitting F7 during the Win2K is the easy way to shut off ACPI. Follow the Microsoft instructions on when to hit F7 or you will miss it and install ACPI again.
What problems are you experiencing?
I have ACPI off but it does not get rid of the system lockup many of us experienced.
Setting...
Does MS actually show conflicts or just sharing? ACPI normally shares all your cards and other devices on IRQ 9 or 11. This is by design.
I have ACPI turned off so I could control the IRQ settings in BIOS. Here is how you turn it off:
How to Troubleshoot Windows 2000 Hardware Abstraction...
I also had the random lockups and tried everthing mentioned. This is what "fixed" my system:
In Bios set "System Performance Setting" to Normal.
The manual says this makes the system more stable at the expense of performance (limits AGP to 2X).
I am happier with stability...
Here is my setup:
Serial Ports disabled in Bios freeing IRQ 3 and 4.
AGP Slot= Geforce2MX IRQ 11
Slot 1= empty (shares IRQ with AGP slot).
Slot 2= IE1394 (Studio DV) IRQ 3.
Slot 3= SBLive Value (IRQ 4).
Slot 4= 3Com 905B NIC (IRQ 5).
Slot 5= Empty.
ACPI turned off during Win2K install so I...
Yo, Welcome to the club...
The freezing is not your mouse. There are a bunch of us having the random freezes; often while on the net but not always. I spent days thinking it was keyboard/mouse etc.
There are several "approaches" which have helped.
The thing that fixed my crashing...
Volitive,
Thanks for the info. I've already been there...
I also had ACPI force IRQ sharing (IRQ 9 in my case). I set my IRQ's in Bios and did a complete reinstall of 98 and Win2K. During the Win2k install I hit F7 at a certain point to force the installation into Standard PC type...
I have a T-Bird 800, not overclocked yet. I have a FOP32-1 heat sink and blow-holes in my case; system usually runs around 40C/104F, so I don't think it is a heat issue (also because the problem does not occur in Win98 while running 3DMark or when playing games).
I have not downloaded SP1; I...
Hello,
I just finished a clean install, dual boot 98/Win2K and I'm having some trouble with the Win2K side.
My Win2K system is locking up (no BSOD or error message, just complete freeze requiring cold boot). This has happened twice while surfing (over 8-10 hour period) and every time I run...

Everything is solved now. Reloaded the driver for the monitor and go to 1600X1200. I can also overclock the card. I got 4834 on 3dmark at 200/200. Is this average for a hercules geforce2 mx?
Thanks for all the help.

My monitor is a 19" Gateway EV900. Anybody know what the max res is for this monitor? Maybe it just a crappy monitor?
I found the overclocking sliders on the Hercules software. I took it up to 190 and don't see any problems. Do I need some benchmarking software to verify it is working...
I can not get my card/computer to go higher than 1024 X 768. When I set it higher, the screen goes "haywire". Shouldn't I be able to set the res higher?
I have the OEM Hercules Geforce2MX with 7ns memory. The Hercules 5.3 drivers appear to be properly installed.
Also, how do I...
