My Abit IP35 -Pro Bearlake Review

Ah misinterpreted. Not sure why you repeated your 15MB/s comment. It really just restates, yes, there is a problem. And yes, we don't have an answer yet.

My Abit IP35 -Pro Bearlake Review

Bit-Tech had a comparison on P35 boards, and noticed this shortcoming. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardwa.../07/12/abit_ip35_pro/7 As for my application, I'm looking at boxes like this: http://www.m-audio.com/images/...s/big/profire_cout.jpg...

My Abit IP35 -Pro Bearlake Review

Someone please post if they see the firewire problem get fixed. I really need a fully functional firewire port, and would love to buy this board. But if they don't fix that issue, I'm going to have to look for something else.

slow ABIT IP35 1394 Firewire performance

Supposedly they are going to try to fix it in the next BIOS release. I sure hope they do, since I won't be buying this board unless they resolve the problem.

    RAID Question...

It is better to run similar performing drives. So if it is easy to get same drives, that's fine. Same logic. The worst performing drive is going to control the overall behavior of the RAID5. At the very least I would make them all the same RPM speed... i.e. 7200 or what have you.

    NAS device or fileserver?

    These aren't bad: http://www.infrant.com/products/products_details.php?name=ReadyNAS%20NVPlus

    yet another raid thread

ARECA has really nice RAID controllers. I've used botht the PCI-X and the PCI-e versions of their cards. Very nice stuff. The killer is going to be if you don't have an onboard slot that would support either. If you are stuck with PCI slots, no good news here.

    Best TV for under $3000?

I have a 50" Pioneer plasma. It's pretty damn good. You can get one in the $2500 range these days. Amazing. http://www.tvauthority.com/orderform.asp?options=&dept=1&prod=4273 TVAuthority has just about everything, and they are experts. As for "best quality", we all know it is CRT...

    RAID Question...

Uh, yeah. Just think about it for a second. You have a "stripe", and 2 words are data and 1 word is parity... basically that's a tuple. So... You can use different sizes, but in a lot of cases that will reduce you to using the smallest drive as the determiner of all useful drive size. So...

Looking for a low-latency sound card for audio editing... and some questions :)

The EMU product does everything you describe. I personally hate their Mixer interface panel (Patchmix DSP), but otherwise they are making an impressive product. People are getting excellent I/O from those cards. I would get the PCI card and the breakout box, as using an external breakout...

Getting ready to build a new gaming rig

I'm not fond of that case. It's basically large. And the disk drives end up being far from the mobo, so you end up buying longer cables. I've used the Cooler Master Praetorian a few times now, and I really prefer that. 2nd drive is a Seasonic?!? Did you mean Seagate?

    Scientific Workstation (~$10000)

At this level in the product space, yeah, this is good stuff. The Dell and HP gear I have worked with that is in this market space is usually very good. And since they stock spares and give you a well defined service model, there is some protection to your investment. The parts are quite...

    Scientific Workstation (~$10000)

Looks doable. The Quad Intels are about as good as it gets right now. I just did a quick check on the Dell website. You can config a Dell Precision 690 like: Quad X5355 Quad X5355 Redhat EL 64bit 8GB 667 FBDIMMS 3 x 146GB 10KRPM SAS Drives Raid 5 SAS That got me to $7700. I...

update rather than upgrade for vista.

Phillipine Mango, My reference is this: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/16/2007-hdd-rundown/page17.html I'll admit I haven't looked at other sites for verification. But the results on that site seem to support my theory about the small WD's being the fastest of the fast. Not to...

update rather than upgrade for vista.

You can't lose the raptor and not lose performance. Sorry. The 74GB Raptor's are head and shoulders top performance. If you want, you could get a $300 ARECA RAID card, and stripe 2 quieter drives, and maybe go as fast as a single raptor. Just a thought. But if you don't have a free PCIX...
