Preinstalled Vista on 1st HD. XP install halt of 2nd HD

I'll try burning my copy of Windows like you did. The disc is the only thing left I can think of as I just bought a new Sata hd and had the same problem. UPDATE: Didn't work. :-) Also removed video GeForce 256MB video card and hooked up to onboard video. Unhooked everything.

Preinstalled Vista on 1st HD. XP install halt of 2nd HD

I burned the ISO SeaTools boot CD with DOS, ran the tests on the Maxtor 40 GB hard drive and it found no problems. The drive is good and I'm afraid to buy another hard drive and have the same problem.

Preinstalled Vista on 1st HD. XP install halt of 2nd HD

The 40 gig appears to work well and I can drag files to it from Vista. I've run all kinds of tests on it and it passes so it is good. I'm going to work on this for awhile though. I've unplugged everything and will try again. I could kick myself for not building a system like I have done...

Preinstalled Vista on 1st HD. XP install halt of 2nd HD

Thank you for responding. Yes, I did disable the Vista HD . Formatted and wiped out any partitions. Did this several times from different sources including the Maxtor utility CDRom. I've tried installing XP maybe 7 times and spent hours.

Preinstalled Vista on 1st HD. XP install halt of 2nd HD

New HP Pavilion desktop with Vista Premium preinstalled on a 250GB SATA HD. I have installed my old Maxtor 40GB IDE/ATA HD for dual booting. Note: one is SATA and one is not. Both drives are recognized in BIOS (CMOS) and in Vista. I can drag files from Vista to it. I am...

    which driver to install?

 I just installed a EVGA GeForce 1700GT with the downloaded driver from nVidia. Vista 32. Evga beta 101.41.101.41 Mar. 2, '07 nVidia 7.15.11.65 Feb. 10, '07 Quite a large difference in driver numbers. Should I stick to the drivers from the nVidia site? Thanks.

Rosie O'Donnell's Latest Bout of Stupidity

If Rosie wasn't so darn sexy and hot I'd have to vehemently disagree with her comments. It's just too bad she's not even remotely interested in me because of celebrity status and "preferences".

What are the different ways you guys back up your data?

I use the free MOZY 2GB online backup http://mozy.com/ every few weeks. For things that change daily like my calendar, appointments, and documents I use a SanDisk Cruiser with the free U3 RoboForm2Go for my passwords and automatic logons. All my programs, photos, music, video, etc. I burn...

    Ligth Scribe Drive's

I've read that it's not a good idea to attach printed labels to DVDs, but CD-Rs are of course fine. But what the heck do I know. LOL

    Reliable Hard Drives...

Over many years I've had a Seagate, a Maxtor, and 2 WesterDigitals. Never had any failures. The drives outlasted the systems.

    Ligth Scribe Drive's

My new HP PC came with Vista and LightScribe installed. I bought some Memorex LightScribe DVD+Rs, the only brand available locally. Works fine. Not overly thrilled about using it though but for DVDs I don't want to attach labels and permanent markers don't look pretty. Takes long time for the...

    Card suggestion

That is an excellent reference page. I bookmarked it. Looks like the 7600 GT consumes only 36W. Interesting and confusing to me is the link to the OuterVison eXtreme Power Supply Calculator which turned up a suggested power supply for my system at 332 watts. I don't get it. The graphics...

    upgrading power supply...uATX form factor?

Those standard ATX measurements are exactly what my HP 300w PSU is. :-) I was wondering if the 7600GT used a pci-e connector. I assumed it didn't, therefore less power draw. Sorry I have been cross posting. Beau
