Sil 3112 SATA chipset problems

I tried to flash the firmware of the Sil 3112 but since this is on a PCMCIA card for my laptop, the computer doesn't recognize the card yet in DOS (with a boot disk). Does anyone know how to flash a PCMCIA card before going into Windows?

Sil 3112 SATA chipset problems

I just got a Buslink SATA Cardbus for my dell laptop. This SATA adapter uses the common Sil 3112 SATA chipset. I'm connecting a Bytecc SATA enclosure to this cardbus card. When I turn on the drive, Windows XP SP2 totally freezes for good. I've spent about 8 hours trying to find new drivers...

SATA vs USB 2.0

In IDE-to-SATA enclosures where the internal is an IDE drive and output is SATA, do those enclosures use some kind of chipset like Oxford 911 in the firewire conversion realm, or do those enclosures just use a simple IDE-to-SATA adapter? Or are they basically the same thing? I'm worried about...

There are IDE-to-SATA enclosures out there. It's the same concept as the IDE-to-Firewire/USB2 enclosures that everyone knows about. So I'm wondering if the IDE-to-SATA conversion inside the enclosure will be the bottleneck or limiting factor. Or if connecting the card through PCI port would...

I only have IDE drives. So inside the enclosure must be an IDE connector. Since all enclosures are just boxes, do you know what IDE-to-SATA chipsets are good in which enclosures?

I had the ME-720F firewire enclosure and it was slow as h e l l. I would like at least 30-35MB/s sustained for video editing. I've read many firewire benchmarks and they just cannot get up any higher than 20 MB/s average. There aren't many reviews or setups that I could find about connecting...

Here's the plan. I just bought a Dell 6000 laptop with plans to do some heavy video editing. My previous laptop is 2 years old and Firewire external enclosure method was only getting about 15MB/s. Now that SATA enclosures are available, they're definitely the best choice for notebook...

USB mouse freezes when flash drive inserted

using 400MHz DDR ram in 533 FSB

Got one of those Dell 400SC servers with a P4 2.26 533 FSB but the ram is ECC 400MHz DDR. However, by default, in bios, the ram is set to be running at 333MHz. Can a 533 FSB handle ram running at true 400MHz? If not, I just plan to keep the ram at 333MHz, and buy additional ram that's NON-ECC...
