When is Intel going to take "budget overclocking" seriously?

And that's ultimately the problem. A K-series chip right now is expensive enough that you're more likely to know what you're getting into, and there's not really a higher-end part that a reseller can claim your K-series part is. Low-end overclocking falls into the problem that Intel had in the...

Intel's Q2: Meh

Keep in mind that there's literal 7" smartphones out there - they're not common, but they exist. And, when 6" smartphones aren't uncommon, a 7" tablet makes less sense.

Intel Speed Shift Technology... MIA?

Where's the dividing line exactly, though? I'm almost wondering if Win10 isn't dividing it based on desktop (SKL-S) versus mobile (SKL-H in this case) CPU, but rather desktop (1) vs. mobile (2) ACPI FADT PreferredPowerManagementProfile? That would be one way that a BIOS update could enable it...

AMD Bristol/Stoney Ridge Thread

Core m3's TDP is at 4.5 watts, though, versus an optimum TDP of 15 for these parts on the low end (and cTDPs down to 10 watts for Stoney Ridge). And, a cTDP-down Stoney would probably get destroyed by a Core m3, especially if you cTDP-upped the m3 to 7.5 watts, I suspect.

The Voyo's a knockoff of the Lenovo, it isn't actually a Lenovo as far as I know. (BTW, your URL got censored, but I figured it out anyway.)

It's worth noting, however, that the rumored Surface Phone was never expected to be a Lumia. Idle power consumption would be the concern, though, and Skylake certainly wouldn't be able to do it - doesn't seem to throttle down enough. Kaby Lake, though? Who knows.

The Intel Atom Thread

Willow Trail (the tablet Broxton part) would have had the same new core. And, the new core doesn't always have more performance. Williamette, early Prescott, and Bulldozer, anyone?

Really, my understanding was that the Cherry Trail silicon was actually exactly the same silicon as Braswell, just better binned, fused differently, and with things (like SATA) not bonded out to the package. So, you could just sell the better binned, differently fused Apollo Lakes as Apollo Lakes.

The thing is, server and mobile actually don't have that big differences in design requirements, as I understand, mobile just needing less cores, but with per-core power demands that aren't that different. (Yes, there's things like AVX-512, but I thought the units were still present, just...

I bought my WinBook TW700 with two things in mind. The first thing was simply to see how awful a $60 brand new computer would be, while also playing with Windows 8.1 on a tablet. The second thing was to use it for vehicle diagnostics, it being one of the few cheap tablets with a full-size USB...

The OP is claiming that they're giving up on Broxton tablets. (The question then becomes, is this meant to be tablet applications of the chip formerly known as Morganfield (which is the smartphone Broxton, comparable to Moorefield) - note that some Silvermont tablets were using Moorefield...

Also, the smartphone Atoms aren't IBM compatible, so they can't run PC OSes. The tablet ones, OTOH, are. (But, some tablets used Moorefield, not Bay Trail, so they're stuck running Android.)

The Intel Atom Thread

Windows 10 is OK on a 16 GiB eMMC if you're aggressive about storing everything you can on an SD card. The updates actually don't overwhelm it, because major updates effectively reinstall Windows, so winsxs never bloats too much. 8.1 is where you get problems, because WIMBoot causes winsxs...
