If I'm an imposter I'm not a very good one. I don't even sound like him.
I realize this isn't a computer for everyone, it isn't meant to be. I wasn't trying to build a 5,000 dollar gaming rig to compete with Alienware, just something cool and different. I laugh at how many people hate on the...
My brother posted my old one on this site awhile back, I think. I had a similar one that wasn't nearly as nice looking since I hacked it together in a weekend that got spread around the internet quite a bit.
After it blew up and went all over the place I decided to build them to see if it...
It is using a PCIE extender.
I'm the builder.. I hate to admit it because then I'm just spamming advertising.
I suppose you can look at my membership length and realize that isn't really the case.
There is no fan on the underside of that power supply. It just has fans on either end and I think. There must be something inside of it like a 3rd internal fan or something because it definitely has most of its noise coming from the power supply. Neither of the end fans are causing the sound.
The riser card is a PE-FLEX16R-A10" from Adex Electronics. I looked at a dozen different companies that do riser cards and theirs was one of the few that was properly EMI shielded to prevent data degredation for it to go this distance.
To be perfectly honest with the motherboard I chose I...
If you live in the Tampa Bay area I'd be happy to help you with a project like this on a Saturday. I'm an engineer and I'm new to the area so I don't have jack shit better to do.
Would there be a general interest for a tutorial on how to do a computer like this? There seems to be a lot of people interested in doing something like this for their next system and I would be happy to share all I learned from doing this one.
If I did another one I'd do several things...
It really depends. Most of the fans aren't an issue. There is one fan that gets sort of loud on the power supply and it only started doing that recently. I think I just need to take the power supply apart and replace it.
The noise things I didn't consider though are the sounds of hard...
I'd have to look up where I got that cable. It was a custom flesible riser with EMI shielding on it. It cost about 60 bucks. If anyone is actually interested in buying one I could go through my e-mail logs and find out what the name of the company was.
It is a fan monitor. I have temp sensors in the processor, ram, and graphics card. It monitors all those temperatures and allows me to adjust the fans. I was worried about temperatures without it being enclosed when I first built it so I figured this would give me a way to make sure it didn't...
My biggest regret with this thing in the end was not buying a modular power supply for the project. I had this nice 750 Watt beast already and I was feeling stingy at the time. If I did this again I could drastically improve it by using a modular power supply and some better cable management...
The base is made out of 3/4" plywood. I spray painted it with a few different layers and colors of paint so that it wasn't just a flat black.
Everything that is mounted to it is on risers to keep it away from the wood.
