Interesting. We would need to know how fan specifications (CFM vs static pressure) and fin density affects those results to be able to draw a broad conclusion. That is one result from only one set of variables. I still contend that having a stronger pull fan is advantageous if doing push/pull...

In my unscientific opinion, pull is better than push for the same reason that pull radiator fans in automobiles consistently outperform push fans, spec for spec (which is why they are set up that way from the factory.) It follows then, that if doing push/pull, I would have the stronger fan...

It's not odd if that's what Asus intended them to do. :) Same behavior on my Z77 Sabertooth. All flash in sequence as each subsystem is initialized. No problems, no problem!

OC will shorten the hardware life span?

OT but I have to disagree here. The raid configuration utility is completely separate from the BIOS, at least on the boards I've used in the past 5 years or so. Wasn't messing with it before then so I can't speak on the older stuff.

My 4.8ghz is on air without delidding. Mid-80's in aida stress test and stable in everything I use it for from FSX to transcoding video and that's about all I really care about regarding stability.

Depends on the chip. My first 3570k refused to be stable at 4.6 regardless of voltage and required 1.36v to be stable @ 4.5. My current unit is rock solid @ 4.8/1.35v. Luck of the draw.

Good temps for OC on i5 3570k

I would use real temp to monitor your temperatures. Thermal radar is a decent ballpark estimate of where they are but is far from accurate. As far the Intel PTPP, there's no guarantee that the RMA cpu will be as good of an overclocker. Golden chip is gold.

In my experience, cinebench 11 finds overclock errors faster than any stress tester. Even when there's no indication of a fault like a BSOD or lockup, there might still be WHEA errors being collected in the event log. If they show up, the overclock is not fully stable. Also, those temps are...

Delidded my i7-3770K, loaded temperatures drop by 20°C at 4.7GHz

Affirmative. Also, tried PLL voltages anywhere from 1.5 to 1.85 to no avail. VRM tweaking was similarly futile. Pretty upset about it since my temps @ 4.5ghz/1.36v is ~85c max during IBT. Aida64 stress test temps are 80c max with both @ 27c ambient. With even an AVERAGE 3570k there's a chance...

Tell me about it. My 3570k requires 1.36 to be absolutely stable @ 4.5ghz and refuses to be stable @ 4.6ghz. I might be one of the few Ivy Bridge owners actually running into a voltage wall (as opposed to a temperature wall) without delidding. It's a shame too; I have a fresh tube of CL liquid...

Does the CPU matter in gaming anymore?

+1 to the last two replies. In my case, I upgraded from a 1090T @ 4.1 to a 3570k @ 4.5 and saw a VERY significant boost in performance in my "game" of choice, flight simulator x. It just so happens to be heavily dependent on single thread performance where IB destroys Thuban, especially when...

Overclocking two 3570Ks, 10C+ difference

I had been reading that lower VID ivy bridge chips can be a little "leaky" as is being reflected in your temps. The bottom line is, not all processors are created equal as was already mentioned.
