I have an inspiron 8600 laptop with an Echo Indigo PCMCIA soundcard and the sound has clicks and beeps whenever I write to my firewire HD. Reading is fine... it's the writing that makes gives the sound problems. any idea what the problem could be?
If you order a WUXGA screen, you're going to have to up the DPI setting for your fonts... but that can sometimes make things look kinda screwy. WSXGA is smallish but readable, WXGA is easily readable but kinda chubby.
Sager, voodoo, alienware, and hypersonic all get their notebooks from Clevo. The M:460 happens to be unique at this point, but rest assured it's still a clevo.
Best notebooks IMO are the new sagers if you need raw power of the dell i8600 if you need some good battery life as well. Haven't seen the IBMs but we all know that they're built like a tank and awful nice etc. I'd avoid gateway and HP/Compaq... those are some sloppy notebooks.
the point of the 8600 is the dx9 compatible graphics chip which the x1000 lacks. FWIW, I used a compaq nx7000 and it looks good but the build quality is the pits and there are several issues with the trackpad.
yes the 8600 has upgradable video. not sure where to buy it, but it's been done before with other models. Shame about the 4200rpm harddrive though, eh?
i totally hit up the 8600 this morning... got 17% off total along with some instant and mailin rebates... i'm a happy student... still cost several paychecks but that's life eh?
I have a mac-fiend friend and we're in a competition to see who has to wait the longest to get their new laptop- dell 8600 for me and the new 15" power book for him (we have to buy dell or apple if we want tech support since we go to college in the boonies)
