Holy heaven - huge curved monitor from Alienware

If anything good comes out of this at all, I hope the joining of LCD panels becomes AT LEAST as seamless as the two lines of a Trinitron monitor were. I've had the idea of joining multiple small panels to make one cheaper giant one for quite some time. Still - this one sucks. I hope better...

    4350 vs. 4770 vs. 4850 vs. 4870

Why not right in between and get a cheap 4650/4670? Far superior to the 4350 but much cheaper than the 4770.

Help Me Pick LowProfile 4650: Powercolor/Sapphire/Apollo? Anyone own these?

SAPPHIRE! Wihtout question! The other two (and I have the Powercolor - ick!) have LOUD, crappy fans. Other than that, the technology is equal.

Do I need to connect psu power to 4670 512mb card

BTW - NO. No additional power needs to be connected to a 4670 card.

Recommendations for a cheap video card

Folks, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't ALL 780G AM2+ boards support a Phenom 2+? (Some might just need a BIOS update...) [shrug] The 4850e/5050e is a tiny bit more expensive than a 65W processor, but not by much and the extra 20W power savings could go a long way in keeping your...

    Upgrade video card?

BTW - you have a WIDEscreen, right? 1280x1024 is NOT a widescreen resolution so things will look WEIRD! Use a widescreen resolution!

Recommendations for a cheap video card

Go with a 65W processor over a 95W.... 30W makes all the difference for ZERO cash.

No prob - it was fun. :)

Recommendations for a cheap video card

Good point. I don't think I ever said it would be better... it would be similar. However, all the OTHER day-to-day tasks would be much, much faster & better. That would buy time until you could afford a GPU to go with it, then the whole thing would be smokin'! (well... in comparison!) ;)

Recommendations for a cheap video card

My Dell c521 has a lousy 280W PSU and it's powering a 65W processor and Radeon 4650 juuuust fine! Don't bother buying the 3450 new unless you catch a sale where it's almost free. I totally understand not having a lot of cash to spare! I'm all about making the most system for the least...

I need to silence this Radeon 4650!

Cheap, dirty & ugly. But, I don't have cash and I don't care what it looks like since it's inside a steel case with no windows. Ventilation is very cood for a low-profile machine so it'll work like a charm. I've done it before with other cards, so I guess we have another winner. Hooray for...

Recommendations for a cheap video card

You're forgetting how large a factor the processor can play! I have a pair of Dell C521's (well, one *just* sold) and the difference between the Sempron 3200+ (about equal or better than the OP's processor) and the other had a 4850e (2.5GHz) and now a 2.7GHz 5200+ With everything else...

Recommendations for a cheap video card

That combo you mentioned is of a mobo + video card. What you need it the mobo, cpu and RAM. 780G chipset, 2x2GB, best AM2/AM2+ processor you can afford. That's about $120 or so there... maybe $150 tops. I saw no combo deals for that one today. Just look for the individual parts that are...

Recommendations for a cheap video card

No offense, but you'll still be hampered by barely-passable CPU and very low RAM. May I instead suggest a new motherboard with onboard Radeon 3200 IGP (about equal to your current 9700Pro for "free") an affordable AMD dual-core processor and 4GB of cleap DDR2-800 RAM. In fact, that'll be...

Highest performance passively cooled video cards for <$200?

Makes more sense to buy the affordable 4850 w/ silent cooling right off the hop, rather than a car + aftermarket cooler (=more money) or a SLI rig which requires an expensive motherboard upgrade too. Dollar for dollar, the Gigabyte 4850 passive that was mentioned looks like the best...
