How do you install a chat server?

How do you install a chat server in *nix? I want to set up a server that can be accessed with a client like mIRC or Pirch. NO JAVA! :)

ABit KT7 hangs on Network Login HELP!!!!

Have you done what Pederv said to do? I just rebooted to try it out since I've only rebooted that one time since I renamed those files. My shutdown was smoother (used to have some things hang on shutdown) and it booted up like a charm. I'd be curious to see if you get the same results. It's...

I'm not sure what details would be relevant. KT7, Duron 600 (not overclocked at the moment), 256MB PC133, SB Live OEM, Linksys Fast Ethernet USB NIC, pair o' Maxtor 20.4GB HDD, Win 98SE, USR Sportster, generic GeForce MX. I am also running WinProxy, but I had the problem before I installed...

ABit KT7 hangs on Network Login HELP!!!!

Doesn't happen every time, but on boot it will freeze at the MS Networking login. Never seen anything like it. Does it with PCI and USB NIC (linksys).
