So, I'm officially a Doctor of Medicine

Because we are "salaried" not hourly, so its cheaper than hiring an adequate amount of staff.... Plus, in many specialties the learning is hands on, so in order to accumulate enough procedures etc you would need to be there for twice as many years if you worked half the hours...

OB/Gyn... intern year isn't too bad, I have 2 weekends off in August to look forward to... Besides, I've only worked 252.5 hours since July first so I can't complain :)

I graduated on June 2nd... and I knew. and i just got a job at the beginning of the month as a resident. woot! for the last month, life has been good!

Have High Blood Pressure?

Whenever I've seen it in the OR, it runs pretty lateral and anterior to the spine, near the carotid.... I mean we don't get too close to the spine during a thyroidectomy...

More idiots that did not get their kids vaccinated = dead/sick kids.

Did anyone READ the case reports in the link about the HPV vaccine?? I too have heard the skepticism about it so I followed the link and read the cases. Some were extremely sketchy and didn't give you enough information, but the ones that did made it quite obvious the vaccine was not at fault...

To those arguing that if you are immunized you aren't at risk of catching diseases from those who aren't: 1. As mentioned, vaccines aren't 100% effective 2. Immunocompromised patients are unable to be vaccinated... so that baby who needed a heart or liver transplant? at risk for their whole...

What is your favourite dog breed?

We have an Aussie/lab mix who I think is probably the best of both breeds. She's really intelligent, not aggressive, barks about once a week (or less), can catch frisbees in the air, loves to swim, doesn't overeat.... beautiful merle coat... She's about 60lbs and 2 years old next Monday...

Just an FYI, new studies are showing a link between autism-spectrum disorders and increased paternal age. So maybe the increase has nothing to do with vaccines and is related to men waiting longer to have kids... Also, the reason that many people correlate autism with the MMR is that it is...
