U just need to create a user with same login on both the machines. While sharing files on the XP m/c, u need not login as that user just have read permissions for it. Also, there are no strigent user rights in win98, so logging in as that user won't hamper much on the 98 machine. As i said, for...

IRC and Linksys firewall

Opening following ports worked for me 59 8124 113 2070-2075 (donno why i opened these but it's there). I can't find the link in my bookmarks but there was a page that described this in detail. Try forwarding these ports to ur m/c and see if it works.
