I would really look in the ubuntu forums for help with this. There is a guide for everyhting and you should be able to fix this stuff pretty quick as they are minor problems.

Don't take this as thread crapping, but these types of cables are snake oil at even half the price. Anybody buying this crap is seriously doing themselves a severe disservice to their wallet. What it comes down to is you will not be able to tell the difference in a double blind test to any well...

Which updates to be applied to dapper drake beta 2 ?

It should automatically choose which updates are appropriate for your system. The package manager will solve all dependencies for you. They don't rebundle the ISO everytime one little update comes out so there are many between releases. Just let it download and fix them for you.

GNOME vs. KDE

I <3 gnome. Mainly because of the attractiveness of the interface. I am a sucker for a clean environment, aestheticly pleasing skins and a slim down software set. If I really need it I can install whatever I need from whereever I want.

Two Linksys - possible repeater setup?

You can setup network repeating with the sveasoft firmware. Since you ahve a subscription you can ask for help, too. Google for, "the individual" and you'll learn why what sveasoft did was against the GPL... Anyway, you can also try DDWRT firmware. Which has more features, newer version...
