  1. Info [PSA] Amazon's new game reportedly causing GPUs to brick

It's the same reason the guy with ferrari doesn't give a shit about its 1/4 mile time, or brand of tires, or hp, or the perfect shift points, etc etc...I mean, sometimes people who buy the highest of the high end do it out of enthusiasm, but usually it's just b/c it's the best and they want it...
  2. Info [PSA] Amazon's new game reportedly causing GPUs to brick

Amazon has no disgruntled employees, I mean Bezos just thanked them all (and all customers too) for paying for his joyride yesterday...they must all be so happy! It's just a few people having the issue now. Should it shut itself down before cooking? Yes ofc, but if it's running very close to...
  3. Info [PSA] Amazon's new game reportedly causing GPUs to brick

It's just a symptom of the very top end cards pushing the limits to be fastest, if you get one of those then usually you're ok but they're much closer to the limit than lower end cards so high end games/mining/etc can possibly cause you issues.
  4. Discussion Intel leading customer for TSMC 3nm?

I haven't been paying much attention since my last upgrade (2013 lol), but from what I can tell it looks like AMD is in a MUCH better spot today than they were back then. tbh I thought they were on the verge of bankruptcy for years and now they have a $100b stock valuation.
  5. Speculation: Ryzen 3000 series

I'm no intel fanboy, but it's ridiculous to imply that nobody else does this.
  6. Speculation: Ryzen 3000 series

That's pretty funny. Too bad that I don't need a new rig now, I think my last AMD cpu was an Athlon 64 FX.
  7. Speculation: Ryzen 3000 series

I havent built a new rig in 5 years, so I'm really out of the loop here...but how the heck did AMD catch up to intel, and even beat them to 7 nm??
  8. So WHEN is the next big thing for the high end happening?

I was hoping that Foxconn would enter the gpu arena, but apparently a sea goddess had other ideas...
  9. Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

Churchill actually won a Nobel Prize for Literature for that book. It's really a humongous serious though, like 4000 ++ pages spread out over 6 volumes...

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. Winston Churchill I read that years ago in Winston Churhill's suberb The Second World War.
  11. Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

It's a bit of a stretch to compare intel's cpu competition with blackberry's competition though, isn't it? Intel screwed up, or, at worst, got caught trying to inflate performance by a relatively small amount. They'll no doubt suffer a bit, but this isn't end, or even the beginning of the end...
  12. Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

Intel has a lot of competition, no doubt about it, but companies like NV and Samsung are suffering from this, too. I like AMD a lot and prefer to buy their systems when things are roughly equal, but AMD only exists because it keeps intel from getting broken up as a "monopoly".
  13. Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

Intel stock is almost exactly the same price today that it was on from nov 17 to the end of the month though. It's hard to see how he'll come under any serious scrutiny from the SEC over this. He should be more worried about his PR fiasco, even if he's not directly managing their response to...
  14. Massive security hole in CPU's incoming?Official Meltdown/Spectre Discussion Thread

How many games are cpu-limited these days with modern processors though? I'm still using a 4770k that I un-overclocked after a year b/c I didn't need the extra horsepower. If this were just about games then we wouldn't all be so worked up, it's the commercial side that needs to be worried.
