Fyi, if you tried contacting Seagate tech support for the updated firmware like I did and didn't receive a response, a poster at AVS's forum uploaded it: 1.5 tb SD1A & CC1H firmware I ran the CC1H on 2 drives and seems fine so far.

Is this a Silicon Image onboard s-ata controller? I had a similar problem going from a 400 to a 1tb drive on a A7N8X deluxe motherboard until I downloaded the driver directly from SI.

Disk defragmenter can't defrag all the way...

How about disabling the pagefile, rebooting, then using the Auslogics app or Contig by Sysinternals?

Need help, how do you use robocopy?

Try enclosing the 1st path in quotes. For example, robocopy "m:\documents and settings\bob\my documents" l:\docs you shouldn't need quotes around the 2nd path b/c there aren't any spaces in that path.

Tried installing two different card readers...

Nm, the Bios shouldn't be relevant. You could try doing a repair from the Windows cd. Hopefully you've backed up recently.

Hmm, maybe there's some dirt on the lens? Try blowing at a slight angle into the drive with some compressed air.

SATA cables with my DVD Rom

The old ribbon-style cable you're referring to is Parallel ATA. The smaller one you have now is the newer format, Serial ATA. Note that the S-ATA cables can come loose without any noticeable sign so make sure they're snug. So you've already checked that both ends of the S-ATA cable are...

Just DID fresh install on my Dell XPS M140

Is it possible that there were multiple video drivers listed for your model of laptop? I.e. the model is offered with integrated or a separate video card?

using "tab" in excel

From the <Run> prompt, try typing in excel /a This starts Excel in a default mode I think. Or not, back up first anyway.
