Don't let other people tell you if you made the right choice - only you can do that in situations like this. A quad core laptop is fairly unique. That, along with 8 gigs of RAM will allow this laptop to be a powerhouse for the foreseeable future.
Just think, the next time you buy a laptop...
I'm going to be a little unhelpful and not provide links. :)
Try out the G.Skill 4GB 1066 set instead of the 800mhz set. Never hurts to have some headroom.
Instead of the "blue" version of the WD Caviar, get the WD Cavair Black 640GB (or 1TB). It's the 'performance' version - runs a little...
I've got a T61p for a work laptop - I don't know if that fits your criteria since I don't have the X series.
You can use "Same display on notebook and monitor/projector" and it works fine.
At work we don't use microsoft for LAN connection, we use Odyssey Access Client. Basically when we...
At work we had the same situation a couple years ago. 24" monitor or 2 19" monitors. We went with the 24" (when they were $1000). Honestly, I wish we'd went 2 19" monitors. The work I do requires me to have a couple (or 4, or more) windows open. If you're working with 2 primary windows and you...
For a small business you can also look at a solution like ReadyNAS or build your own NAS. The Windows Home Server software has backup software which allows you do to backups. This might be a good option especially if you want the drive available to more than one PC at a time.
The Windows 7 beta is pretty solid by all accounts.

Like other posters, I'd grab that beta is...
I'd pick up a 4850 or 4870, grab an Antec 900 case (love them), ditch the sound card as mentioned before. You may want to look for a 320GB single platter drive.
What he said. I had to pump a decent amount of voltage to get about 3.6Ghz. What I didn't realize is the amount of vDroop I was getting hit with. I jumped in to OCing too fast and became confused, only to find out I had a bad stick of RAM. Now I have two good sticks and might try for 4Ghz again.
I used a 9600GT from day 1 with a DS3L with no problems. That's not the case with me IP35-E. It simply won't boot with an 8800GS. I stuck my 6600GT in there and it boots up.
Trying to get my USB stick straightened out so I can BIOS flash with it.
