Need SSD for *very specific* usage scenario - Advice?

Garbage collection on all ssd's out now are pretty relaxed. They were at one point pretty aggressive just before trim was introduced. I know some of the older ocz drives you could manually force gc with a program. If you were using a windows as an os for your data collection I could easily...

why are all the new monitors I try terrible for gaming?

LED backlighting itself doesn't have a direct impact on screen response. It's the cost cutting associated with implementing LED backlight that causes it. Far as any monitors having true LED backlight I'm not really aware of any, maybe on the high-end. And yea I do appreciate the benefits of LED...

The problem here is that you're trying to get a budget LED monitor. They pretty much cut costs by going with a lesser quality panel. There's really not much reason to get an LED monitor unless it's true LED backlit and not what 95% of them really are, edge lit.

Looking for a 120Hz LCD

Quite honestly to see the true benefits of 120hz in a game you really have to be hitting a constant 120fps. I have both an IPS and 120hz monitor and for the faster paced games I definitely prefer to use the 120hz monitor. Color reproduction obviously isn't as great as the IPS but calibrated...

Frame skipping -> view distance?

Part of the issue is just how the WoW engine works, or for that matter how mmos in general stream content instead of preload everything due to the nature of the game. There are ways to minimize the stuttering by messing with the view distance and the shadow setting. Another tweak you can do is...
