Now I have to start saving for the upcoming GV104 part that's just around the corner. Crazy how fast the PC GPU market is moving! I haven't even had my 1080 for a year and it's already outdated not only by a higher tier Pascal card (that I was expecting) but by a whole new architecture and...
Sometimes my sarcasm detector malfunctions so please put me out of misery and tell me that's meant to be sarcasm. Because if not...
PS4 and XBO came out in late 2013. 3.5 years ago.

Could someone run a quick test for me please?
What framerate range do you get when you run Rise of the Tomb Raider at 2560x1440 and maximum graphical settings on DX11? So VXAO enabled etc. In Geothermal Valley area of the game, as I think that's the most demanding visually.

Yes, I have a i7-6700K, so I might not need to upgrade for a while.
I was just disputing the argument that no one could possibly build a powerful PC primarily for gaming.
I think Ryzen is a great start. Just because it loses out in gaming doesn't mean it's DOA, far from it. BIOS updates and...
Speak for yourself. I only need it for gaming. I don't edit videos or photos, do any 3D rendering, do any number-crunching tasks, complex modelling, running virtual machines, spend all day opening compressed files, or anything really other than pure gaming.

All very good points. While I think that 1080 Ti offers a better deal than 1080 did at launch, I don't think that the 1080 was a bad deal.
I'll use a few examples from this article to illustrate my point:

Here's...
Let's do some maths and see how much extra longevity you actually get when you only purchase x80 Ti parts vs x80 parts.
Here's launch dates for the last few generations of NVIDIA GPUs:
780 (May 23, 2013)
780 Ti (November 7, 2013)
980 (September 18, 2014)
980 Ti (June 1, 2015)
1080 (May 27...

This the point I'm trying to make. I bought a 1080. The person I was replying to is trying to make me and others who bought 1080s feel ripped off and unhappy because there's a successor out. Well, the 1080 Ti isn't going to remain king of GPUs forever. There will be a successor that will offer...
The early adopters of the 1080 Ti will be in the same situation when NVIDIA Volta comes around in 6-12 months time, offering more performance at the same price point.

Not really seeing any reason why I'd need to replace my i7-6700K so soon after getting it last year. It's nice to think that AMD and Intel will have some interesting options when it is time for an upgrade. Thanks AMD!

Such a shame that it doesn't use the Pascal architecture with 16nm. Could have added an extra hour or two to the battery life.
My issue is that I intend to use it primarily as a portable device. And I wonder how much the battery will have degraded after the first year with daily recharges. That...
