As with most automated tools, the smaller the design the better the P&R. Bobcat had this advantage.
Bobcat - 380 Million Transistors
Zambezi - 2 Billion Transistors
The i7-950 has 4C/8T. Why bother adjusting thread priority at all when running 3 threads?
Seems you found an OC instability. Try it without OC and see if it still crashes with priorities raised.
I read that the extra core added about 50% more transistors to the module size. If they had gotten the 80% performance gain they anticipated it would have been worth it.
They're not able to feed the cores fully so in practice they're getting 30-59% which explains a lot. When it's at the...
Marketing is as marketing does. Cherry picked benchmarks, truths but half-truths. This is the nature of the game. It's like looking at synthetic benchmarks for operations people would never perform. You have to read between the lines and judge for yourself.
I don't think he ever intentionally...
It's in our nature to rally for the underdog. AMD is 1/20th the size of Intel.
There's better ways to support AMD though. Buy their better price/performance products like Llano/Radeon.
Oracle has their own CPU now after buying Sun. It's called the SPARC T3/T4. They have 16 and 8 cores respectively.
These chips were on hold for a while but now they're actually shipping.
A Llano APU with the GPU disabled. Good to see some benchmarks finally. I thought it might OC higher being 32nm, but still not bad for the price.
I think these are OEM only which is why you don't see them being reviewed much.
Yes they would have but complaints from the "enthusiasts" doesn't translate into huge dollars. Llano/Brazos is making a profit, actually the only reason AMD made a profit last 1/2 year. They had to severely cut the price of Zambezi and they could end up having stockpiles of them.
Intel's chips...
AMD should have kept with the "we'll release when it's ready," as opposed to shipping a hot chip. Clearly the design was meant to perform much better with the sheer number of Int/Fp pipelines. The transistor count is comparable to Intel's 8-Core Xeon Nehalem-EX.
AMD trying to do too much with...
It seems until AMD fesses up to the design problems in Bulldozer, they will keep throwing GFlo under the bus. With Bulldozer having over 2 billion transistors (2x as many as Sandy Bridge) there's no way it can keep at the same TDP as Intel on a clock for clock basis. Those transistors need...
I'm not sure if borked is the right word but it definitely has a performance issue. An AMD engineer I spoke with said it has already been fixed and in the working Trinity APU engineering samples. It just wasn't corrected in time for the Zambezi launch, however it may follow shortly with the next...
