980 just died :( 2080 or 2070? (I need to get it today)

My old 980 literally died on me this morning...doubled/blurry text to just no picture no matter what I do. Stuck in an old 580 I had and it fires up. Just can't power my 34" screen as its display port the card is DVI only. Have to work this weekend using it and what's available in town is 2070...

Repurposing old machine to HTPC - what to change?

Not sure yet. I want to use to be able to stream things in-house. Not much us for standard TV reception because i have DTV. I do have an OTA card but i can't pull in everything without having to move the thing. Kind of annoying. So, machine to machine, netflix, hulu, movies, etc. I'd love to...

Repurposing old machine to HTPC - what to change?

I swore the MB was in there...It's an Asus P6 deluxe v2. Was looking at the fanless stuff from nvidia and the latest i saw as a 730 IIRC...no fanless 900's? As an HTPC i figured i'd take it back down to 2.6, replace all the fans 'cept the 250mm, and get a new video card.

My sig has the machine i'm looking to repurpose. Compared to my new machine, this one is noisy as @#$5 :) Seems a bit overkill for an HTPC, but the only other thing i have laying around is an early core2 duo. The specs should be good enough for 4k shouldn't they? Though i'm likely...

Surface Book and Surface Pro 4

I was going to order an SP4, but the release day is one business day late for me :) I was going to use an overseas trip as an excuse to buy one, but i leave the 25th :( Don't suppose there's a chance they'll be out prior to that? Guess i'll be looking for a (hopefully discounted) SP3.

As someone who uses that stuff professionally - you don't even really need the Xeon, though at that price it isn't going to hurt you at all. Pretty impressive build for the price. :)

After being the Autodesk world, ugh, 20+ years at this point - I can tell you that everything other than maya and SI and their high high end discreet editing line, they switched everything over to direct3D with their 2008 versions which was march/april of 2007. The best place to ask the question...

What softare are you running that you want a quadro card? I ask, because unless the app is specifically OGL, they can be overkill. I know studio pro's using max who say to use the GeForce line as they're as powerful on directx and much cheaper than a quadro. FWIW, outside of softimage and...

Thanks for that. I know i'm weakest at knowing what size PSU to use. Always have been.. Even with 650, the price drops a nice chunk - around 50-60 depending on which one to go with. Thanks for helping clarify that for me. :)

Weird, at posting and even now, my wishlist shows that PS as 129. Clicking on it though shows 240. You're right - 240 is crazy. If that sale piece is gone, so is that PS, hello seasonic :) I'll check into that MB...first glance does look good. Exactly where should one be able OC a 5820 in this...
