I just wanted to concur with the good results of delidding a 7700K. I did much the same as the author. Before delidding, my 7700K would quickly thermal throttle after reaching 100C during Prime95 clocked at 4.9 GHz with a +.050 voltage offset. After delidding, I initially used Thermal Grizzly...
I felt a bit guilty too purchasing one (the i5 256 GB model no graphics). But it was for my wife and it honestly met her needs perfectly. Her current laptop is 4 years old. She really only needs something that is small, with a good keyboard and great screen and good battery life. Plus I have...
I love my Surface Pro 3 that I have had for a few months. I have the 256GB/8GB i5 model and have no issues with its performance. I was curious about its 3D performance and used 3DMark to test. Its performance was quite poor indoors. Winter has come early to Michigan and ran the same tests...
It's been a while since I purchased some up to date hardware (so I'm again excited), but I can't imagine I'll have any buyers remorse upgrading from my 560 Ti to the 970.
I hopefully have fixed the problem. There were actually a few BIOS revisions available for her laptop and two of them were said to fix issues with SATA detection and resume from sleep. So maybe for once in my life I found a BIOS issue with a revision that actually fixes my problem.
I recently moved my Intel 520 240GB SSD to my wife's laptop. I used the Intel software to copy the image from her 320GB drive to the new SSD. Everything worked great and the system seemed to be working fine.
She immediately started getting blue screens and the system would not start up...
To answer any unanswered questions here--I was succussful in the upgrade. The supplied Intel Data Migaration software is more than sufficient. It can decrease and allows manual resizing of various source partitions. It worked well. The only hiccup was a Bootmgr missing error on initial...
I looked through the listing of topics on that page twice and couldn't find a link to address my specific question--can you provide a more direct link?
I downloaded the Intel software and read through the manual (if you can believe that) and no where does it say if it will allow or will not allow the sources partition to be shrunk to fit the smaller SSD. Does anyone have experience with the software and doing this? I would prefer to use the...
That's a good thought, I have purchased a few retail intel SSDs before but never bothered to load the included CD. Does anyone else have experience using the intel software and will it allow a partition to be shrunk (keeping in mind that the total data size on the source drive is less than the...
Well, since I didn't know what else to purchase my dad for Christmas and I had no interest in going to a mall to look for a nice shirt, I purchased a 120GB intel SSD to upgrade their computer which I put together for them a few years ago. They currently have I believe a ~500 GB hard disk with a...
Thanks, Wirednuts--I picked a Sperry unit at Home Depot after work for $40 and it worked great. Of course the line was the last one down the punchboard, so I would have wound up taking every single cable out until I got to it.
I need to add a wireless AP to the upstairs in our home and am planning on repurposing the existing cat 5 cable that is pulled to all of our phone jacks. My problem is that at the punch board in the basement none of the cables are labeled. I don't want to have to pull each one off in...
