    Portable Pooper

I'm not a boater, but I would have thought one of the advantages to being on the water would be making the sea your toilet. I mean, the fish do it. The whales do it. Even the noble dolphin poos in the ocean. And they're the second most intelligent species on Earth, so who am I to judge?

Gadget Getters! AMEX Cardholders: FREE Lifetime ShopRunner Membership ($79/yr. value)

You know, I tried a bunch of stuff and had just about given up on getting things to work correctly. Then, on a whim, I thought, "I wonder if the two login methods handle the password field differently". This really shouldn't happen, but I thought what the heck. My original password was a...

[Dead] Seagate 4TB HDD $139.99 FS @ TigerDirect

If you scrolled up on the page you linked, you would have seen that Seagate 3 TB and 4 TB drives were included: In fact, if you read the Backblaze article itself, you would find that they claim the 4 TB Seagate to be one of their preferred drives to buy for their storage pods. It doesn't have...

[Dead] Seagate 4TB HDD $139.99 FS @ TigerDirect

Also, if you don't mind jumping through the hoops for a Total Defense rebate ($60), you can get a bundle with the 4TB Expansion drive, which has the ST4000DM000 inside of it. I bought this a couple weeks ago and shucked the HDD out of the enclosure. I stress tested it and it seems to be doing...

Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD at Amazon for $179.99 (480 GB for $279.99), FS.

That's true, you would need another cable to transfer your previous install. It would be easy to do in a desktop. Are you using a laptop? If that's the case, you might be able to use the CD/DVD bay temporarily. Otherwise you will need either eSATA or USB. I like to use a hard drive dock for this...

Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD at Amazon for $179.99 (480 GB for $279.99), FS.

Amazon has the Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD on sale for $179.99, which is a heck of a deal. EDIT: I just noticed that the 480 GB model is also on sale, for $279.99.

    WD 3TB Red - $90-110 AR, 2x @$200-220 AR

I saw a similar type of note on the $20 rebate and worried a bit about it, but it still came in the mail shortly after the $30 one. I think the note is just that there was no UPC attached, which would be abnormal for other rebates, but as this one is for a general purchase it isn't required.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

I bought one as well and like it. Sadly, I'm not getting anywhere near those numbers as I'm still rocking a SATA2 motherboard. C'est la vie.

Newegg has the Seagate 600 Series 240 GB SSD on sale for $139.99, no promo code necessary.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

The SanDisk Extreme II is certainly much more expensive than the rest of the field, but the Seagate 600 Series is only around $10 more for 240 GB than the Crucial M500 last few times I've looked. I'd say that makes it the best deal.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

Well, according to this obscure site I read recently, it looks like the Sandisk Extreme II and Seagate 600 Series are the way to go, with the Crucial M500 and Samsung Evo following closely behind. As for personal experience, I recently bought a Seagate 600 Series 240 GB SSD to replace an old...

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

That's a pretty nice price. Adorama is a highly regarded camera retailer. Probably second only to B&H. So I think they should be as safe as an eBay seller gets.

    SSD Deals @ Newegg

I suppose you could file this one under "warm", but Newegg has the Seagate 600 Series 240 GB SSD for $139.99 with promo code (EMCYTZT5382). Expires 01/07/2014. I think I might jump on it.

    WD 3TB Red - $90-110 AR, 2x @$200-220 AR

For a single drive system, there is no technical advantage, though the Red might last longer since it is designed for constant use. Also, the warranty is longer on the Red drives, I believe. I bought mine as a hot spare for my NAS which is already using 3TB Red HDDs.
