Had a relative in Houston ship me one of these from MC in early December. I love the chip. Have it overclocked to 4Ghz and it is speedy and stable. I know I could probably coax more out of it, but I don't feel I need it.
Anyway, it was $320 at MC when I ordered it.
For high end, AMD really doesn't make any desktop chips that compete well with high end Intel chips. I like AMD and have been running an FX 8320 in my desktop rig at home for two years. It's been a good chip, but starting to lag behind Intel's chips by a fair margin.

Mavericks SMB support is horrible. I have been trying to help the folks at my wife's office with their Mac/Windows Server file share environment. OS X drops connections (SMB/CIFS and SMB2) like hotcakes. Some of the machines in the office disconnect all the time and their is no rhyme or reason...
Don't know about the warranty, but I ended up doing it anyway on my new GE60 Apache Pro. It came with 1x8gb and I threw in another stick for 2x8. Just ordered an m500 for one of the msata slots this morning.

Depending on how large or complex your site is, I can think of two things off the top of my head that might be adding to your problem. You might check your search and indexing settings. That can take up quite a bit of room. Also check your log level settings as well.
