My girlfriend has an HP laptop and paid the extra amount for the accidental damage protection coverage. They have very good support and send you pre-paid Fed Ex boxes so that you can send whatever back. -niyogi

Gentoo linux a.k.a How I wasted 3 hours!

remember that /boot is not mounted automatically. you must issue "mount /boot" if you want to copy over a newly compiled bzImage :) chatterjee

Is there a task manager in linux? ie: like when you cntl-alt-del in windows

Hi Paragon, ktop is what you are looking for. So you're running KDE 2.2 eh? I just installed Mandrake 8.2 on my machine and upgraded KDE to 3.0.2. I'm putting together a how-to to drive KDE up to this version for Mandrake 8.2 machines. Check out bajaar.com in a couple of hours. -S

Mandrake so much better than Redhat (my opinion)

I sway back and forth all the time... Can't ever figure out which one to stay with; Gentoo, Red Hat, Mandrake. Mandrake 8.2 I prefer for a fast distro to get onto a computer. KDE packages are designed for Mandrake. The KDE folks do not like Red Hat so much though. -S

Do you run Linux based servers at home?

Gentoo Linux on one box. Red Hat 7.1 on another. Both of them rock-solid. On the Red Hat box, am running : Exim Cyrus Apache PostgreSQL mySQL Samba (as a PDC) -S

the linux distro paradox

gentoo is *not* that difficult to install.. it just seems that way because if you printed out the installation process, it's like 14 pages long. It's just a bunch of rudimentary steps and you learn a lot in the process! once you install it, everything is smooth sailings onward. and if you get...

what would make you switch to linux? (if you're not already using it)

enter gentoo (what I'm running right now) gentoo rocks. but it's not for weenies. With a portage system where in order to install the latest version of KDE you type "emerge kde", you can't go wrong in worrying about recursive dependency issues because it does it all for you. The downside...

kde 3

i'm trying out gentoo linux right now... apparently the kde3 ports are out for that so i'm hoping to have a speedy kde setup after about 2 days of downloading and compiling and general setup. anybody else using gentoo? www.gentoo.org -S
