You can turn the XP-90 around so that the fins overhang the way you want.

You have the same fin direction with the XP-120, the only difference being you have to worry about resistor clearance with the XP-120. Again, the fin direction doesn't matter if you have an ATX case becuase the PSU exhausts the CPU cooler as well.

Yeah, it is not the boot sequence that is causing the problem, it is the SATA configuration. There should be two or three different cinfigs for the SATA controller, like "primary 1 and 2", "secondary 2 and 4", and/or "IDE master/slave"....something like that. I had that problem with my IDE...

Well, there is ver little difference in performace with the fin direction. I have mine installed in the less optimal direction. But in the end, you probably have fans sucking away from the heatsink in both directs, the exhaust fan and the PSU fan. So in practice it makes no difference.

Yeah, the BIOS is setting the SATA as the primary drive. The options on every motherboard are differnet. You just need to get it on the right one.

Computer's video terrible suddenly

One other thing is to try and run the adware scan and the antivirus scan while the comuter is in safe mode (hit F8 while booting). You might have done that already I am not sure.

Do you have something magnetic next to it (I assume for $10 we are talking CRT)? If you degaus it does it get better?

If the computer is still powered up and the video just goes blank, you might try to update the video card drivers to the most recent set. If that doesn't work, try a different video card if you have one sitting around.

how to test for bad PS?

Sounds like a PSU to me, bad RAM typically goes to a blue screen and you are describing shorting which is typically a PSU issue. I agree with buying a new one and seeing if it makes a difference.

Try booting with the SCSI drive only, installing the latest motherboard/chipset drivers and then reboot and enable the SATA drives. You have three differnet controllers at work there, you could easily limit that to two (removing the IDE drive). If you think it is the drive itself that is bad...

How much is an XP-90 (non C version) over in AUS? It provides similar results to the XP-120 and is cheaper.

oooo, it will be close. You should be able to make it, if not you can drill a hole so you do not have to clear the stock opening. I got a Seasonic S12 to make it (without drilling).
