how much power is needed?

I will look into getting a new one asap then. I guess I should be able to tell then if there are any other problems--the problems i have are probably the psu's fault I guess.

I have a friend who's found a great deal on a laptop at Best Buy--a Sony notebook (FX210 is the model) that's powered by a Duron 800. I remember hearing though that were a few manufacturers who went ahead and put Spitfire core Durons into laptops. In all the websites on it I can't find anything...

Is my CPU fried?

Try what SiRu suggested--the insert key trick has worked for me many times. It usually doesn't change any .values in my bios but does make it boot at the default bus and multiplier. It's saved me many times.

I'm a relative newbie to overclocking...I did the pencil trick on my Duron 800 about a month ago, and I was able to hit 950+ easily. However, over time my system would boot to 550 when the multiplier was set to 9.5, and 500 when set to 9 (and 600 at 10x). A quick reboot would usually put it back...

Duron temperature

My motherboard is a MSI K7T Pro2a KT133. As I write this, CPU temp is 105, chassis is 82. Main fan runs at 4800rpm roughly, and I've got two 60mm case fans (front/back). Ambient temperature is fairly high during the late afternoon--maybe as high as 80 actually--and cools down to the 70's in the...

first overclock-help!

I put the voltage up to 1.8 and hit 1Ghz (9.5x105), but Windows was unstable, and when I rebooted beeps galore came out of the machine. I reset it down to the default and worked my way back up. At 1ghz temperature was around 100-105 degrees F--not too bad I guess. I've had to put it back at...

first overclock-help!

I upped the core voltage to 1.675, but Bios is registering it as 1.7V. It'll boot now to 9x105 for 945Mhz. What's the absolute limit I can take the Vcore to? it's only 55Mhz to a gig--it'd be great to get to it, but I have my doubts.

Okay, I think default Duron voltage is 1.6. My bios has settings for 1.625 and 1.650 (to start out). PC Alert bios monitoring is giving me the current voltage as 1.63V. Should I not bother with the 1.625 and jump straight to 1.65? Also, what's the absolute highest it can take (so i don't go over...
