I did this not too long ago myself. I did a traceroute to my isp's web page so it is something within the network.
Then the tech actually asked for another one outside the network. Just do one to a major site such as yahoo, or msn, or whatever. Good Luck.

It is copmatible, but there is one thing you want to make sure of...
You need to make sure the 256MB of ram is not high density. If it is, it is 256MB on one side of the stick. Older motherboards can not handle this. If you are getting 2 128MB sticks it should be fine... Good Luck.

They may not be made by Lucent, but the have the lucent chipset. Just do a search on pricewatch for lucent and you can find some for as low as $9 + shipping.
Other than Lucent somebody else might be able to help you out, but my experience has only been with hardware modems and lucent...
I do agree that the main use for this would be for server applications. It is a really great idea and the price will go down. That is their "estimated" price.
