After clearing the CMOS I was still using just one stick of DDR3 (I had reduced it during previous troubleshooting). I got Vista installed and ran Prime95 for an hour: passed I reinstalled Windows 7 and ran Prime95 overnight: passed I re-added the two additional sticks of RAM: instant fail...

Clearing CMOS was a surprisingly simple solution. What also surprises me was that loading defaults wasn't sufficient. Thank you -- Vista is up and running again; testing in progress.

A few reasons, really: 1) this setup has been stable for 2 months 2) the memory controller is on the cpu 3) removing 2 of the sticks and running just a single one at around half its rated speed in single channel mode (it's a 3-channel system) didn't help.

I purchased this on Nov 11. It's been running since then on an Asus P6T Deluxe board at: 165 bclk (3.3 Ghz) 1282 dram 1.26250 CPU voltage everything else default (stock cooler) 3 sticks of Patriot DDR3/1600 RAM It's not totally dead, but it is no longer stable even at BIOS defaults...

A8N32SLI-Dlx temps - 3rd chip reads 125 deg Celcius!

Mine shows 125 on that third sensor (in speedfan) whether I'm at 2.0 or 2.6 on my X2 3800, and I don't think I've seen it change. I'm pretty sure it's a spurious reading. Stability has been perfect.

.. and not just when you mouse over them, treasure-hunt style. Interface consistency and all that :) I actually missed them recently, thinking the drop-down box was the only choice (which didn't make any sense). Later I noticed the forum links, and while I could blame my 30-something eyes...

Any retail stores in bay area / silicon valley that sell high end cooling gear?

I'm looking for top of the line air cooling (meaning alpha/swifty/tr - NOT tt), or water-cooling components for a P4. Are there any enthusiast shops that are still, well, shops? Retail only, open on Saturdays... any suggestions appreciated.. :)

(again) This is not unusual. You are most likely CPU limited already at that resolution. Here's the important tip: if you can increase resolition and / or add AA etc, and your FPS stays the same, you are CPU limited. If you want to find what the card can really do (hint: 1024*768 with no AA is...

OEM or Retail Ati 9700 Pro ???

Retail, retail, retail. This is a new card, coming out at the same time as new games and new AGP standards (8X). Alot of it has never been tested together, simply because they were all in development at the same time, and testing on noexistent products only happens when manufacturers work...
