I've been running this mobo for more than a year, but I finally made the switch from a 3000+ Venice and 2x512MB RAM to an X2 3800+ and 2x1GB. I put everything together and got no POST/no video. Reset the CMOS and still no dice. So I came on here and read jimcpl's experiences about switching...

Compare these two Canada-Only Hot Deals

Seems like the Dell is the winner here. The CPU may not be as powerful, but I'm guessing it won't be a real CPU-hungry setup, based on the two choices. Faster memory and Vista instead of XP, and a better warranty. Plus, as you've mentioned, those Dell PSU's seem to be a bit more reliable than...

Not many motherboards either :) Think I'll be waiting for a month or so, when the best chip/mobo combination will be decided. will be nice to see lots of reviews across the major sites though.

What CPU/system was everyone running in 2000 or before?

I had a Dell... I think it had P3 500 128mb memory 6x CD-RW Voodoo3 3000 Not sure how big the hard drive was. Played Starcraft, Diablo 2 and Half-Life/CS nicely :)

DDR2 667 @ 4-4-4-12 vs DDR2 533 @ 3-3-3-8. Ordering soon, need advice!

If the socket 939 processors are any indication, I'd go for the tighter timings. Athlon 64's don't seem to care much about the memory bandwidth. Mind you, the timings won't make a big difference either, I doubt you'd see even a 1% difference between the two memories.

What are your CPU upgrade plans?

I'm on a 3000+ Venice at 2.7... planning on dropping in an X2 3800+ when the prices drop in late July. After that, might be a while before I get anything faster. If K8L is all that, I might spring for it, but I don't know who the price/performance leader will be when I need to do another...

tRAS and AM2/nForce5

AT had a good article that explored tRAS a little bit (on the Xpress 3200 chipset). They found that memory bandwidth kept increasing with a higher tRAS but the stability got flaky at higher values. The best mix of bandwidth and stability was reached at tRAS = 13. Here's the link...

How do you get to the Nvidia Pure Video options?

Download Microsoft's DECCHECK from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta...-4990-943D-627E6ADE9FCB&displaylang=en Run this, and you can set PureVideo to be your preferred decoder. Then when you're watching mpeg-2 video the icon should appear, and you can right click it.

I've got a question about the memory freqency when overclocking with this board. I've got a set of Mushkin Blue 2x1GB PC3200 2-3-2-5 memory so I'd like to run it at 200MHz with those timings. I also have an X2 3800+ that does 2.5GHz at stock volts no problem. So, I'm trying to run the CPU at...
