Dell U2211H and U2311H IPS Monitors

Windows 7 is basically Vista renamed

Pc for <$500

Check out the Dell outlet store. About six weeks ago, I picked up a inspiron 530 - E4300 - 2gb ram - Vista Home SP1, for $279. I added a HD 3650 for $50 AR. For $330, I'm real happy. The store deals change frequently, so keep checking if you don't see what you want at first.

Coating on pin/pads of Core 2 Duo CPU

This is my 1st venture into a C2D so everything is new to me. I have a E4300 that I might try the 800mhz->1066mhz pin/pad mod on (Dell so no BIOS adj). I was looking at the pads on the bottom of the CPU and noticed what looks like a thin plastic coating over the pads. What is that stuff...

For Vista, what drivers did you use? I saw that Dell has 530 drivers for Vista and Foxconn has drivers for their G33m02 mobo, used by Dell. Which to use? Any problems? I would like to get this machine with an E7200 to move up from my old P4 and add a good video card later, but I'm using Vista...

Remove drop shadows from Vista

Maybe this is what you are looking for: RC Desktop > personalize > Windows color and appearance > open classic appearance > effects button > show shadows under menu

Happy with Vista! Am I in the minority?

I've used Vista for the past year and am happy with it. I just had to get a few new drivers and program updates, then everything worked great. The many Vista forums and Tip sites have been a help learning about Vista. The UAC was initially a pain, but TweakUAC running in silent mode solved that...

Vista Update problem.

I had the same problem with that update and so are a lot of other people. Doing all of the help suggestions for the error code you get doesn't help. I found the solution through a google search. Download the Framework 1.1 SP1 from Microsoft then install it manually and it will work. I didn't...

Are 19/20 inch LCD screens at 1600x1200 usable?

Here is a LINK to how Vista scales the DPI. Hover over the different DPI settings to see the effect of changing DPI settings in Vista. If you're not using Vista, this feature alone might make the upgrade worthwhile. I use Vista with a 20" - 1600x1200 and couldn't be happier with the window...

I'm not experiencing any truncation problems. In 1600x1200 @ 120 DPI. Maybe try changing the icon H/V spacing. As for an 800x600 jpg, I DL'd a picture to see what it looks like. In Picasa and Win Photo gallery, it measures 8"w x 6"H.; looks good to me. If I want it any larger I zoom it up...
