Thanks for doing the tests!
I emailed gigabyte about a month ago about this, and never got a response. I guess I'll try again with your added information and maybe they'll have a better idea of how to fix the problem.
Run it every time you want to run coretemp. It's generally run as a batch file which includes the hack and a command to launch coretemp.
What annoys me is Vista asking me if I trust HWMonitor every time I launch it. Is there any way to add programs to an allowed list??
I use HWMonitor from cpuid
Everest works well also, but you have to pay for it after a 30-day trial. It's much more extensive and has some neat features though, like putting info into the vista sidebar
Ah... I understood that a higher RAM multiplier isn't worth the trouble; the only reason I suggested doing it was to try to isolate components, since I saw no way to OC the FSB and leave the RAM stock. I see that there's not even a point to that, from your experience.
That would explain why my...
I think I'll try going through this process. I've been just setting everything higher together and hit a barrier at around 425mhz where I'm not sure which of my components is causing problems.
I have a question though - how do you keep the RAM at stock speed while raising FSB? Would it be...
For the Gigabyte P35-DS3 boards, at least, a spare cpu is not necessary. I got a board with an old bios and was still able to boot far enough to flash to the latest bios. I didn't try, but I've read that other people have also been able to boot into windows with old bios.
I bought my GA-p35-ds3p 2.0 december 30, and it came with the F6 bios. I can't say whether it would have worked flawlessly that way though, because I just immediately flashed to F9 after putting everything together with my e8400. I didn't see any good reason to install windows first since the...
I have the same problem. I've only tried sleep once, and when I tried to resume, it went into a constant reboot thing. Cutting off the power and turning it back on didn't even help; I had to cut off power then wait 10 seconds before trying to power on again. I'm afraid to try sleep again...
I just set up my e8400 at stock settings, and i seem to be getting large differences in core temperatures (using coretemp to read)
At idle, there's a difference of about 14 degrees (core0 is around 25 and core1 is around 39)
At 100% cpu, the difference goes down to 6-9 degrees (38 vs 46)...
I had a lot of trouble understanding that english, but the way I understood it, they were saying that std/turbo/extreme correspond to some "performance level" of 12/8/8 respectively.
You also want this "performance level" to go DOWN in order for overall system performance to increase.
So I...
