Socket 1155 cooler recommendation?

I can vouch for the A70. Oc'd to 4301, my cores run between 25-31 at idle, 56-60 running Prime95 for an hour. For the money, I would recommend it over the Noctua coolers (that are 2x as much money for another degree or two).

i5-2500k temps too high?

Temps are way too high. My cores range between 26-31 at idle with an oc to 4.3. Prime95 with that oc is 56-59. I don't think the RMA was a bad idea, but I do hope you are investing in a quality CPU fan and properly applying thermal paste.

Thanks! Definitely sounds like too much AS5 to me. I went pea-method. Once the A70 is crimped on, it spreads it quite nicely. Would I benefit from spreading it evenly, or a pre-wipe with alcohol? Maybe a degree or two - not enough for me to take that rat bastard cooler off again. You need...

Is 84c too hot?

$300 cpu, $150 mobo - why trust that to the stock fan? Always go aftermarket. There are a ton of good aftermarket solutions to choose from between $45-80.
